Hard to believe that something interesting happened during a soccer match but there it is.

You could actually bet on goal from center circle in most games at like 750 to 1. Though I wonder if this one wont count since not in circle. Odds now I saw are 500 to 1

not a long enough clip to answer, but why were the defenders so far off the ball and why was the keeper so far out of the goal?

It's Scotland, so I'm pretty sure it boils down to alcohol.

Yawn. Most players can hit the net from half. Can't find a clip anywhere that shows why  the keeper is 30 yards out of position.

Odds are they were in possession fairly deep in the Czech half. The defenders' positions (all around the halfway line) says that they were attacking pretty hard, as they were a goal down.

Goalkeepers nowadays wander outside the box when their team is in possession in the opposing half, in case the opposing team clears the ball far enough that the centerbacks would have to run back to get it.

That goal is what happens when he gets caught by a breakaway and a sublime strike.

Watching a longer replay:

A Scot tries a shot from outside the box, but it rebounds hard off a defender and to Schick himself. He must've just had a single glance before unleashing the dragon.

The keeper was both too far forward and waaaaaay too slow to react. The counter attackers ran forward at least 20 meters before the kick was made, and the keeper still couldn't get back to his line even while the ball was in flight.

The finish is impressive, it's actually pretty hard to hit the target from that far out because soccer balls are pretty light now and designed to allow the kicker to get a lot of swerve on it.

But the keeper has no business being that far forward, so it's pretty much on him for that one.
