There's always a choice, even if only in how you face your death.

We know. Trump murdered more americans than the civil war did. And yet hes still not in chains or hanging by the neck in front of the white house. There is no justice.

You know what actually stopped spread in the places that beat the virus? Proper contact tracing and quarantines with teeth.

The stupid thing is Trump could have raked in a fortune on MAGA-branded masks and other pandemic shop items.

The blame is squarely on Kushner and Miller because they intentionally wanted democrats and BIPOC to die...aka genocide.

Maybe not using Cheney's exact words but pretty damn close.

My personal favorite is my wife's relative who made a mask and wore it nonstop at first. I didn't have one as this was when they were telling everyone to save the surgical masks (et al.) for the people in the medical profession, and we hadn't made any yet. I ran into her at the Costco and spent a good bit of time talking to her, and she wore that mask for hours at a time according to her. Flash forward a few weeks to Trumpy getting his anti-mask tirade on, and suddenly she can't wear a mask, she gets headaches, blah blah blah. Farking stupid.

Just like Republicans figured out they could never reign Trump in, Trump figured out that he could never reign his followers in. It assuredly would have helped if he pushed on the masks, no question. But, I don't think it would have been this golden ticket that everyone thinks it would have been.

And I say that as someone who can't stand the man. His followers don't love him for his policies. They love him because he makes them feel good about being assholes. The minute that stops, that's when they move on.

At one point in time, the other side was wrong, and even though it was at the start of the pandemic, and even though we needed those masks for front line workers, and even though they changed their minds shortly afterwards, they haven't been right 100% of the time. So Trump telling people to this day they should have never worn masks, saying any reaction was a hoax, and Republicans fighting mask mandates and vaccinations the entire time is exactly the same.

You know what?  It's fun and all to blame Drumpf for this.  Because, yeah, it was clearly his fault.  Except for one thing...

THE GOVERNMENT LET HIM DO IT!!!!!one!1!!Eleven!!11!!!!

Seriously...  Our government stood by and let him do all of those things.  At any time, they could have stepped in and said, "Dude...  Enough...  This has got to stop, and that means you STFU."

But no.  No one did that.  And many of the sitting government actually all but encouraged and appropriated all that bad behavior, and spread all that misinformation.

The only conclusion that I can draw from all of that is that the government KNEW what they were doing.  And they KNEW they could blame Drumpf for it.

Now, you might be thinking, "Well, what was the purpose of that?"  In my view, the purpose was to make sure he lost the election.  Because if not for that, he would have won.

Yes, I am implying that the government let over half a million people die, and let out economy go into the shiatter, because they had no actual recourse to get him out of power.

What was baffling about the situation is Trump even had a path to help save a bunch of people but to also go with a divisive conspiracy theory that would do well with his base. He could have just went full hog into the chinese bioweapon narrative. Told people to do everything they can to protect themselves from this Chinese attack on America.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - the GQP totally blew the whole political aspect of COVID.

They could have framed the whole fight over which people should get relief funds.  Shouldn't the "real Americans" in the "heartland" get COVID checks? Not those whiney "inner city" folks.  They could have also pivoted much earlier to the whole jingoistic USA vs. everyone else BS about who should get vaccines.  (Yes, this is a cynical-as-hell view of the options they had before them, but hey, GQP...)

Instead, they denied the reality and severity of shiat their own briefings said would be bad, drew party lines against masks, and fought tooth and nail to avoid any sort of relief for individuals.  We'll still be paying the price for those decisions for years.

Fark the lot of them.

Yes, he is. Did Xi need to tattoo his warning to Trump's forehead?

If only there wasn't that recording of him with Bob Woodward admitting he was notified by Xi that COVID was airborne and then this little visit by Pence to 3M the day after the administration told everyone not to wear masks to lock down N95 masks 3/5/2020.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/09/opinion/trump-bob-woodward-coronavirus.html

On Feb. 7, during a taped interview with Bob Woodward, President Trump acknowledged that the coronavirus could be transmitted through the air, that it was very dangerous and that it would be difficult to contain. "This is deadly stuff," he told the investigative journalist.

"You just breathe the air, and that's how it's passed," the president warned.

Despite his apparent understanding of the severity of the disease and its method of transmission, over the next month, in five cities around the country, Mr. Trump held large indoor rallies, which were attended by thousands of his supporters.

Mr. Trump spent weeks insisting in public that the coronavirus was no worse than a seasonal flu. It would "disappear" when the seasons changed, he promised in late February. "We're doing a great job," he said in early March.

Why lie to the American people? Why - as the administration accuses the Chinese government of doing - lie to the world about the severity of what was declared a pandemic only days later?

"I wanted to always play it down," Mr. Trump told Mr. Woodward on March 19. "I still like playing it down, because I don't want to create a panic."

Mr. Trump and a great many of his supporters and political allies did play down the severity of the coronavirus and did criticize the public health measures deployed to prevent its spread. As a result, the coronavirus spread faster and sickened or killed more people in the United States than in any of its peer nations.

There are literally records of Kushner and company discussing how it was going to impact densely populated blue states and minority communities more (because that's where the disease first tore through) so it made political sense to drag their feet on PPE supplies and spend the fall hammering Democrats for their poor handling of the pandemic that would have otherwise dissipated by then.

The expectation was always "we can't let anyone panic, we just have to will into existence that it isn't a problem and it will fix itself". Meanwhile you know Hillary would be out on her ass because she let 30K Americans die by implementing stay in place orders instead of just doing what Trump would have done which was shut down all the borders in December like he tried telling us he did when the first ~10K cases happened.

From 1918.

25% of the population are always going to be idiots.  But the majority of these idiots can be peer-pressured into doing the right thing if the rest of society unites against them.  I've seen this in action with anti-maskers here in Canada.

Trump's idiocy just allowed the other idiots in the US to resist common sense and decency.
