I've been tempted to pick up the Avengers game when it's been on sale for ~30, but considering how that game went I'll let the rich kids test this out first despite how it looks.

Also, why not a new Parasite Eve sequel? The older ones had great action gameplay and implemented RPG elements.

Okay, why does Peter look like a giant tool? Clearly they didn't pay the stars for their likenesses and voices. But making Starlord look like one of the most punchable faces in the galaxy can't be good.

I bought it for the $30 and found that the main quest was a fun enough superhero romp to justify the price tag. But for everything outside of the main quest it's a game at odds with itself and hates you for playing it.

If you like Marvel then the sale price is worth a playthrough of the story imo (Kamala's character arc in particular was great), but then put it away and forget about it. Play any further than that and it actively punishes you for doing so.

So they're using the characters from the comic.  Shame they're adapting the wrong volume.

I'd rather them put out another Tomb Raider game, or put extra effort into making Final Fantasy 16 not suck.

But alas, this is farmer Squeenix with another cash cow to be milked dry.

I like the ME "control your party" vibe.  But the fight is just waaaay too talky.  Like back in Mario Bros whatever where they gave him all the voice acting until it became unbearable.

I like that they went with an art style that's not "we totally tried, but couldn't afford the MCU likenesses, so here's their stunt doubles" like Avengers.

Getting a strong teh mighty off model "Marvel's Avengers" vibe from this.
Jeezus, how long is "Squeenix"'s Marvel contract?

Also, getting EA Star Wars vibe, where they get to half-ass your
favorite IP's for 5 to 10 years.

The MCU is its own thing and sourced from the comics.  This game is also sourced from the comics.  Not from the films.

And a remake like Final Fantasy 7 got, with voice acting.

Hell, just give me Chrono Trigger playable on Switch, along with the FF I-VI remasters they announced yesterday.  I know they only said mobile and Steam for those, but I half-expect them to be announced for Switch during Nintendo's presentation Wednesday, hopefully.

Some tiny, fractional percent of people give a shiat that the comics exist at all. A smaller chunk of that group buys them.

The MCU films are some of the highest grossing, most viewed franchise of all time across any media.

Even if you were correct they sources the look of the characters from the comics, to 99.9% of the planet, they'd still look like the wrong people because the comics are not who they recognize. Considering Square Enix goes for a live action look, not a cartoon look, that really exacerbates the problem.

I'm still very content with the PSX remakes, but a remastered Chrono Trigger would be awesome. Getting around Chrono as the silent protagonist might be difficult though.

I know I'd rather see an HD-2D remake of Chrono Trigger (or FF VI) over the Dragon Quest one they announced recently.  Oh well.

What I'd really like (but will never happen now) is an HD remaster of FF7.  Same gameplay and everything, just modern graphics and sound.

Didn't Squeenix have a falling out with Nintendo back in the N64 days over cartridge vs disc formats? It's been some time since I've played video games, but I recall all of the titles only being released for Playsfation.

I think they're back on good terms.  They've done exclusives like Octopath and Bravely Default, and even had FF VI on the SNES Mini.  I think there was probably a bit of a falling out between the two when Square took its toys over the Sony's console, but it looks like it's all good now.  I fully expect the FF remasters to make their way to Switch.  It's just a matter of whether it's at launch or a year down the line.

I think the limited cartridge data played a key role in Square moving over to Sony, plus they were offered a ton of money and a lot less restriction in terms of game content.

Everything kind of went downhill for Square once that Final Fantasy movie bombed back in 01, and that led to them merging with Enix to more or less save the company

The World Ends With You. Why would my mind go to one of the worst Bond movies?

SE and Nintendo have been playing well together lately.

I will die on the hill that Octopath Traveler is a TERRIBLE game, but Dragon Quest 11 and Dragon Quest Builders definitive editions came to the Switch, and the DQ Heroes have been on there for a while now. Special shout-out to 11 that ties all the previous games together...it was a brilliant bit of writing and before they were all considered separate trilogies. (Not counting (DQ 10 which is an online MMO)

In fact DQ9 was a DS exclusive and I think that came out in 2014?

Builders is a great series for anyone who loves Minecraft but wants a bit of plot/questing/puzzles, and is really fun.

I liked Octopath, but it had major difficulty issues. Since you could choose when to do what, much of it ended up being a cakewalk due to being over-levelled. Then the endgame optional boss was such a cheap bastard that you would have to seriously grind to have a shot at it. Very few sections of the game felt appropriately balanced.

Come to think of it, I loved Bravely Default and the direct sequel (although a bit less so)

And I just couldn't get into BD II - I got to the point where the gates are accessible but the bosses are all in their 'ultimate forms' and it's like 3-5 at once and is just night impossible when you first get to them.

But also the plot ai felt was just not very strong.

I only got through the late game in BD2 by cheesing a few moves, especially the thief move that does damage depending on speed. It was effective, but did make the late game a bit dull.

That's what I paid, and it was worth it for the story missions, including the DLC, which are more interesting. However, the characters level up independently, so if you don't play as someone, even if they come on a mission, they don't get XP. This means characters the redundant characters like the Hulk (whose role on the team is replaced by Ms. Marvel with a side bonus of healing), Thor/Iron Man (same role), and Black Widow/Captain America/Kate Bishop/Hawkeye (ditto), you are only likely to have one leveled up.

Frankly, though, once you get to the endgame and postgame play (which there is a lot of), the only reason not to play Kate Bishop is because you feel like smashing something as Kamala. Or there is a character-specific mission. Which will suck because your Thor is at level 8 and you've been playing at level 37.
