So, to sum this up, Kim Deal decided the big pile of cash is worth ignoring Black Francis's bullshiat for a couple of months.

No, Paz Lenchantin is their bassist now.

I thought they were gonna tour with Styx.

Everybody likes Pixie/Styx

Fun.

I've seen both bands separately in the last 5 years and they were both great.

As mentioned, we had this thread already. A conversation about why Pixies should be headlining, non NIN. I still don't get it.

This will be the heaviest concert with the most gray hair per person in history.

Nah, Deadhead concerts in Jerry Garcia's last few years, if Jerry's own weight and grey hair towards the end is added to the equation will always beat that out. :P

I love it when she does that shiat with her hair...

Yeah, I think NIN and the Pixies are slightly heavier than the Dead.

Frank Black's solo stuff (incl w. the Catholics) > the Pixies.

I remember seeing all those old bands my dad liked touring, and thinking to myself, "Man, who wants to see that old person shiat?" Now that the bands I grew up with are those bands, I find my opinion hasn't really changed: who wants to see that old person shiat?

(I actually like some of the newer NIN stuff but damn does NIN feel like old guy music anymore)

I've had the luxury of meeting Reznor twice, as he lived here in New Orleans for many years. Unlike his recordings and stage presence, the guy is shy and, in my limited experience, soft-spoken.

But then you see him live and it's like, "holy sh*t."

I found out like a week ago that the Pixies had three new albums I never heard about. Maybe I'll get around to listening to them one day but I dunno. I kinda feel the same way about most Star Wars movies these days.

I have the exact same feelings about new Star Wars releases. The first three I'm obsessed with, but now?  Meh.

I've got 15 FB solo albums, and I love five or six of them, and really really like all but two -- 2000's Odd Balls and 2010's NonStopErotik.  The highs are as high as the Pixies, and the sheer volume of really good stuff he put out between 1993 and 2009 wins the day.

The live show is in-farking-credible.  And thats coming from a guy that hasn't seen them in 20 years; the various full sets on youtube... man. You would be grooving at that show.

well, at least this 40 year old man would be grooving.

/NIN was a good soundtrack for sexual activities as well

CSB time...

When Trompe Le Monde released I went to a mall record store(yes those things existed in ancient times) and bought the cassette it had all the sleeve art and credits.  I get home all excited and put it in my dad's epic stereo.  What played was obviously smooth jazz and my brain did a big WTF.  Put 2 and 2 together and I realize this ain't the Pixies.  So I took the tape back to the store, by some miracle I still had the receipt and told the employee this is NOT the Pixies.  He put the tape in the stores' tape player and yep same smooth jazz and he was like that's the Pixies what are you on about.  Eventually I talked him into playing another tape from their shelves and it was the actual album and he gave me that cassette.  I gave him the smooth jazz Pixies tape because I'm not a big fan of smooth jazz(except in elevators).

As the stoner kid in Clueless said, "The way I feel about The Rolling Stones is how my kids are gonna feel about Nine Inch Nails."

Give me a show where Trent Reznor and Frank Black fight bare knuckled and Pop Will Eat Itself plays live in a venue with great acoustics, I'll run there with no hesitation .

I missed that thread, but have you seen both bands play?

I love both groups. The Pixies are like watching almost any band play live. Where as, NIN performs a full on orchestrated stage show.

Maybe you should attend, if you can, to be able to get it.

Would I be ruining the joke by pointing out that they're only with NIN for two shows?

2021-06-13 11:06:46 AM
I'll be sure to pass on this crap. Thanks.

NIN sucks. Trent was cool in the late 80s/early 90s, and then he just kept making the same thing over and over. Now I can't stand his music, even the two good albums. It's all whiny, adolescent, "woman-hurt-me"/"society bad" whinging and biatching with the same guitar loops. Whenever I hear his music now, I just wonder why it appealed to me as a younger person.

And I never, ever liked the Pixies. Watered-down alt-pop. I lump them in with Blue Traveler, Pearl Jam, Smashmouth, Nickelback, and other dumbed-down frat-radio bands that make me feel violated by how mundane and derivative they are. The Pixies are the alt-rock equivalent of a trip to the dental hygienist.

The two together? It makes me feel sad that David Bowie ever toured with Trent. Yes, I was there. Bowie's side of the show was awesome, but it was marred by NIN-ballcap-wearing fratboy douche-bros shouting about Bowie was "some old guy" and how they wanted Trent back on the stage.

I think I'd rather have a prostate exam than have to listen to a couple hours of Pixies and Nine Inch Nails music.

WilderKWight:

Funny enough, I haven't had either band on any list in a very long time.

I can totally see your points. I lost interest in Reznor's non instrumental /film scores after Hesitation Marks. That shiat is "I'm 14 and this is deep" level. His wife's attempts to mimic his vocal queues and style is even more cringeworthy.

I also have more issues with certain fans of musicians than the artists themselves.

For instance, I can get down with some Grateful Dead but I wouldn't want to be around a Dead Head. I enjoy Clapton / Dire Straits type stuff but Blooze Lawyers are a blight on the guitar industry.

Hell, I can appreciate the talent in the acts featured on the contest idol shows, just don't make me share meat space with their fan bases.

Modern pop country is the only genre I can't support. Snap tracks and pandering lyrics to sell beer and trucks to morons have taken over that space.

I like the idea of NIN, but the music is damn near unlistenable because half of it is too quiet to hear unless you crank up the volume so much that the loud parts are too loud.

It's fine with headphones in a quiet room at night, but not anywhere where there is any ambient noise.

I would have killed to see the Pixies when I lived in Oklahoma in the 90s.

Now I'm on the west coast and they're in Tulsa.
