I really, really, really wish we could stop conflating criticism of Israel, the country, with somehow being anti-Semitic. I am absolutely, 100% opposed to the right wing, zionist hegemony that currently dominates Israel's politics. I'm also a fervent atheist who thinks that religion is a force for evil everywhere in the world. But I do not engage in hating Jewish people for their religion or their ethnicity.

The right wing evangelist movement in this country has successfully been winning this argument for far, far too long (while, strangely, some on the crazier side, like Rick Wiles, are openly anti-semitic). They successfully paint criticism of Israel as anti-Semitic. It's just simply apples and oranges.

Agreed. Although I would point out that one should take pains to distance oneself from the exact same tone and language that is used by the Stormfront crowd. If it's easy to lump one in with Nazis, one's opponents will always do so.

Freedom of speech doesn't exist for Muslim women in Congress.

Isn't she a lawyer?  How the hell can a lawyer not understand what freedom of spee-

Tlaib gained a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Wayne State University in 1998[3][11] and then graduated as a Juris Doctor at Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2004
(as per Wikipedia)

Ahh... well, that explains that.

Once again proving that Israel is the one and only country in the entire world that you cannot under any circumstance criticize.

And we also now have to pretend that the U.S. and Israel's respective spy agencies never tortured or kidnapped anyone or had international black sites.

It's open Islamophobia . . . and worse still, it gives cover to the assholes marching around chanting "Jews will not replace us."

It's pathetic.  It's disgraceful.  It's craven.  It's the Democrats.

Why are the Democratic leaders more concerned with Omar's truthful remarks about Israel but not about rebuking Patty Murray and Kyrsten Sinema not voting for the 1/6 commission?

The "big tent" doesn't seem to qualify if you're Muslim or progressive.

If she is an anti-semite - she is hiding it quite well.  Much better than many Republicans.

Which is all we can ask of people.  I'm sure there are many politicians in both parties that harbour bigoted feelings towards Muslims and other groups.  If so, they need to work on that and they need to make sure they are very careful in what they say.  I think she careful.  She is trying to be an advocate to Muslim people.  What type of person would she be, if got elected and turned her back on her own people.

Lots of people all around the world are against Israeli actions.   They aren't all anti-Semites.  What is going on the Middle-East is a controversial shiat-storm.  I would certainly expect someone with a Muslim perspective to have a unique perspective.  That is the whole point of having diversity in our politicians.

Exactly. It's a lot easier taking their arguments seriously when it's not a carbon copy of the Marjorie Traitor Greene's "They're stifling my first amendment rights! Look as I tell you on Twitter!"

Talib has legit concerns but using those same arguments as MTG kneecaps them immediately out the gate

Subby and the Democratic leaders who rebuked Omar seem to be totally aligned with ex-Vice President Mike Pence's view of Ilhan Omar.

Apparently, it is perfectly fine for Democrats to align their views with the Trump administration.

It's not all democrats, but it is the rich white ones who happen to hold the positions of power. Condescending White Liberals have always been a viper of an ally for POC. But shiat they are still better than the Klan, the Nazis, and the Birchers.

So that is something I guess.

That's all the Israeli government really has for cover at this point. They can spin it however they want, but the occupation of land and systematic bulldozing of homes of the conquered population to make room for your own citizens, blockading of basic goods and services, and bombing of civilian buildings IN TERRITORY THEY CLAIM SOVEREIGNTY OVER violate all sorts of international norms. They're down to 3 defenses: 1) "God requires us to do it" (which works with the religious crazies); 2) "everyone else has done it" (when are you going to give back all your land to the Native Americans, US?); or 3) "Why do you hate The Jews?"

I really don't like how we have to dance around the fact that the Rightwing supports Israel not in the spirit of international camaraderie or anything like that but instead it's purely because a wombo combo of Israel needing to be there for the evangelical apocalypse to kick off and they like how they kill brown people. The military contractor grift is a nice bonus but it's the other stuff that got it started.

They all but scream it but if you take it as fact suddenly they're kidding, or you're taking stuff out of context, or YOU'RE the weird one for noticing.

It will never happen.  That said I absolutely agree with you.

Also love how evangelical wastes of flesh love them some Israel but only because of some shiatty Dan Brown books or whoever writes those Left Behind evangelical masturbation primers.  Probably not Dan Brown because I remember kinda reading one a few decades back and it was way better than anything DB has ever imagined.
At any rate they just love Israel because it needs to be destroyed or almost destroyed or whatever their little death cult prophecy is so then jeeeeeeeeeeezus can come back and give us all back our foreskin or something.

The Jewish people have been shiat on for thousands of years. My feelings, and blood connection to them have zero do do with Israel.

As much a I do not follow the adventures of Bibi closely enough to weigh in on his career... After getting my comment smashed in a Pol thread I bought a book that discusses the Big Question for outsiders looking in. I read this book about the colonial expansion (cheap ebook), for example, the planting of olive groves because of various international treaty loopholes. I still strongly support the creation of Irael after the Holocaust. But I also still lament (and rarely decry), the transformation of a state to empower a group of people who have been undergoing genocide and enslaved for millennia, into a state that serves to raise taxes and soldiers to fund several other countries' weapons sales and military spending for oil adventurim. I will never figure out how that was allowed to happen, except as a UK/France/USA extension of antisemitism, to hobble the UN's clout and reclaim the land and political power that was supposed to create peace.

I rarely decry it because in the age of the internet, speaking about Israeli-Palestinian politics, even in-person, is a career ending move, no matter the opinion given.

There's a third reason.  They need a place to deport Jewish people when they create a "White Christian homeland" here.

And they're pretty damned open about it. Richard Spencer supports Israel because it's what he wants to do here.

When AIPAC says that they are very effective at using money to lobby the government to do what they want, they don't get called anti-semitic.  But when Ilhan Omar says the same thing, she is called anti-semitic.
