He is in love with his car?

He could have been not-driving somewhere other than jail?

Nick Nostril: Kick a pothead out of jail and keep this idiot in there.

Yep.  If you're caught driving after having your license suspended/revoked, you should go to jail for a while.

If you're so bad at driving that a court of law tells you that you cannot drive ever again, you should probably take that as a clue that it's really best for you and everyone else if you don't drive again.

Like that ever stopped anyone, years ago my sister was hit by an uninsured unlicensed driver. IIRC nothing much happened to her in the way of punishment except a longer time not being able to drive.

Only allow him a motorcycle license, make him put his life on the line.

/ of course I didn't read the article

Soo what exactly is the thinking behind a timed ban like that? "This guy is a danger on the roads so lets not allow him to  drive til he's 90+, he'll be a better driver then right?".

implant an explosive device in his lungs with a GPS that will trigger if he moves more than 20mph.

Really? You don't think there are lots of 93-yr-olds driving, even now?

Not saying there should be, mind...

I want to know why he was banned, that is the interesting part.

My grandfather was the same age when he put gasoline in the oil reservoir of his Cadillac and almost exploded the thing. My cousins and I had his license revoked and took away his guns.

Extend his driving ban another 20 years.

Ah say, Ay say.  What if he's re-in-car-nated?  Did you see the pun?  Did you see the pun, son? I keep pitchin' them and  you keep missin' them.  You gotta.  Ah say, you gotta keep your eye, your eye on the ball.  Eye ball!  Almost a pun there.

He will have to take his road test again.  I doubt at 90 he will pass

He will be 92, the same age my grandmother is now, who is still allowed to drive despite our best efforts in getting her not to (she had a fainting issue that caused her to retire work two years ago, has gotten worse since then and she has more time on her hands to drive around.)

She passed her drivers license retake at age 90, so long as she is always wearing her glasses and hearing aides. (She is not)

/warning to small town PA folks.

I was going to mention that I've known a few drivers in their 90s.

Hopefully, if I make it that long the car I have then will really drive itself or we will have sorted out mass transit better.

For right now I'd  have to pass on that guy....you know check to make sure he's at home & not out on there on the road causing mayhem or just plain stupid shat........

Why was he banned for so precisely many years?

Nonsense. 95% of the time it's a suspension for revenue generating purposes.

How about until 2062? Just to be sure.

Take away his car. If he gets another one, take that one away too. if someone gets him a car, take that one too. Camp out outside his house and as soon as he pulls up in a car, confiscate it.

The future of punishment is on its way.

Self-driving cars.....people too irresponsible to be allowed to drive.....problem solved!!

But as punishment they are restricted to 8 miles an hour under the speed limit and relegated to the right hand lane.

It probably started out as a 1 year ban for DUI or reckless driving or something like that.  Then he'd get caught and they'd tack another year or two onto the ban.  Probably with his 5th or 8th DUI it might add on a 5 year ban.

You don't get a 40+ year ban from your first offense.  You really have to work at it.

Also if you get caught driving while your license is suspended, you'll have an extra few years added on to that suspension.  So could stack up very rapidly if this guy kept driving all the time.

I know the court would never allow it, but remove one eye.  Tell him if he is caught driving again, he loses the other eye.  He might still try to drive, but he won't get very far.

Do the same for people with multiple DUIs.  If you can't stop drinking and driving, you lose your eyes.

Great.  Now they'll be driving while drunk *and* blind.
