I'm going to withhold judgment until I see LaVar Burton, but Mayim Bialik has done a great job.

Mayim is doing OK.  I assume she gets a bit of coaching on the enunciation and hopefully some other tips.  She seems to like to throw in little comments pretty frequently.

Man I would LOVE to see that guy do a 2 week stretch. That would certainly fluster the female contestants, and probably some of the male ones too.

Ben Stein

Yeah, I thought he was a pretty good host on "Win Ben Stein's Money".   It's about hosting, not politics.

Mariska Hagarty (sp?) I think would be good as well.

Probably. You don't really want the host to outshine the competitors, usually.

His whole schtick was being as monotone as possible.

She is also an anti-vax nutter and endorses unproven brain supplements, so while I think she did a decent job, let's not encourage crazy.

And that wardrobe-sheesh. Is the 1900's schoolmarm look popular right now?

DNRTFA yet ...
I haven't watched as much as I used to lately since I'm usually playing with my son or doing stuff around the house when it is on.
I liked the executive producer guy - he seemed to be a good fit.
However, I've been very impressed with Mayim Bialik the couple of times I've been able to catch it - actually made it a point to try to watch a couple after seeing her first one.
She just seems "down to earth" like Alex was - by that I mean that she doesn't project the "I'm smarter" like Oz seemed to, or the "in a celebrity" like some others did. She comes across very much like someone who you would/could talk to if you were out somewhere. I'd love to see her as permanent host.

She's a bit of a weirdo. I think she homeschools too. And also fark Dr. Oz.

Realistically. Most of these guest host don't desire to do this full time. I think Jennings has always been the choice. All this guest host crap has been for publicity, to get through summer where low ratings abound.

Ken's a known quantity.  The thing with Ken is I don't think he brings in any new viewers, and that may be a consideration for producers

A week ago or so, on another FARK posting about how great Mayim was doing, I posted:

"she is charming as hell, and it seems real and natural. The only thing is the comments and add-ons after answers. I feel she is not doing it to show her intelligence, but maybe to educate the viewer... Anyway, it's small but if it went on for months, seems like it would get annoying."

Well, week 2 is not even over, but the comments, giggles, laughs, explanatory add-ons, has grown old, and annoying, real fast.

Ken Jennings is still my top choice.

I am with you completely on the bullshiat way she behaves, although yes, she is oleasant.

What I can't understand is why they haven't looked farther afield for a hist. Why haven't they asked any little people to host? And where are all the AAPI people?

Someone in a wheelchair could do this job. Someone who isn't completely white could do this job. We've seen so little variety, it's a real letdown.

Do we have a high level spell caster that can resurrect Mr Trebeck? Because everyone (save for the charismatic executive producer) has been utter shiat.

She probably means well, but it is annoying, and comes off kind of condescending.  She's done the explanatory thing about as much in two weeks as Alex did in his whole run.  Granted it's on TV, but it's a little like sitting in an upper-division class in college, and the instructor referring back to the intro course for a reminder to the class, assuming it's their first time hearing it.
