Great!

In an interview Monday with a conservative radio host, Nearman said the group he instructed on how to text him when they arrived outside a door at the Capitol were "mostly blue-haired old ladies."

Dude, we ALL saw the video.

That's like calling the 1/6 insurrectionists "tourists".

Need more of this.

Let me guess, soon he will campaign for a US Congressional/Senate seat based on how "unfairly" he was treated over his "benign" actions?

Good, it's a start. Now do the federal insurrectionists in Congress.

One down......

Fantastic. Now he needs to be arrested for conspiracy.

I'm shocked.

And JUST the video of this guy opening the door WAS NOT ENOUGH. It was his prior coordination which did him in.

At least ALL the Oregon Republicans voted to expel him.  It would have been unanimous, except for his own no vote. :)

Execution. Need to make an example of.

Before the Oregon GOP would even consider expulsion, understand that it took:
- Video evidence of his participation at the time of the crime
- Confirmation that he was the person in that video
- His direct admission that he was the person in that video
- Video evidence of his participation in the planning of the crime
- Confirmation that he was the person in that video, as well

He helped plan it, he did what he helped to plan, and he admitted it both friggin' times, without remorse, when confronted with irrefutable evidence, yet the Oregon GOP still went "...look, could you just resign so we're not forced to vote against you?"

He was a traitor.

Until we start saying that word, out loud, about people who deliberately and maliciously attempt to overthrow state (or federal) legislatures, the GOP's still going to feel like they might be able to skate through such treason if they put on a brave face and a show of solidarity. They need to know that it's not farking OK, that they need to stand up for the rule of law, and farking deal with the fact that their political party has embraced anti-American extremists masquerading as goddamned "patriots."

Kat09tails: Fantastic. Now he needs to be arrested for conspiracy.

There's a whole friggin' raft of crimes for which he's guilty. The GOP's again hoping that if they just sweep this under the rug, it'll be OK - they will get through it unscathed.

Fark them.

That means his seat representing a rural district west of Salem will likely sit vacant for the remainder of the legislative session, which must wrap up by June 27

So he basically got expelled for the last 2 weeks of term? Such punishment.

THIS is exactly why the Republicans in Congress don't want an investigation of January 6th.

/ is that a little too Capt. Obvious of me?
// yeah, it is.

"The 22 other House Republicans, all of whom voted to expel Nearman, remained silent during the floor debate."

Not even one "Hail Trump!"?

Die trash. I've been waiting for you to go down.

I have no idea how we managed to breed so many white terrorists when being a white person has been pretty farking good in this country since around 1492.

I noticed that in the article, the author misspelled "armed terrorists". Looks like they tried to spell it like "armed protestors".

They need to skewer the Oregon GOP over that with a YUGE "we told you so!"

Now let's see the Branch Dildodians ride to the rescue so we can put them away too.

make me some tea: Good, it's a start. Now do the federal insurrectionists in Congress.

Working on it. Gotta get the small fish to fry first and flip on the people who let them in.

It's really tough to make a serious case against a sitting member of Congress, they need all the witnesses and evidence they can before they take down the riff raff in Congress.

/Hell, I fully expect Trump to die in prison before we get most of the assholes sitting in Congress that helped in the insurrection locked up.

* for getting caught

Now -- what actual penalties will he face -- like, say, for example, a facility janitor who decided to prop open a secure legislative facility door for domestic terrorists?

Target Builder: * for getting caught

You are correct that people who do not get caught generally do not get punished, but it's not the getting caught that is being punished. It is still the act they committed being punished.

From a New York Times article "The lawmaker, Representative Mike Nearman, 57, was charged with official misconduct in the first degree and trespassing in the second degree, according to court documents."

For heling to conspire on an attack of a state capitol by conservative terrorist that seems like might weak charges. I would think a law and order republican would want the book through at him.

anuran: Now we need terrorism charges

Exactly. To admit they aided the insurrection is to admit their complicity in terrorism.

Gee, a bipartisan state ejected a traitor.

Anyone thinking this will be a repeated pattern elsewhere?  I've got a bridge to sell you.

Plus, I'm sure MAGANation is taking care of their own.

So now insane racist autocratic militia freaks are going to be underrepresented in Oregon.  Is that what you libs want?  Is that democracy?

So the people in his district don't have to pay state taxes anymore because they are being denied representation right?

The proper way to handle this would have been to get a recall election going and let the people of his district decide. Then if they feel he should be removed hold a special election to replace him

The problem is that the people of his district elected him to begin with.  They shouldn't get a do-over.  Kick his ass out and they can try again the next time his seat is up.  The penalty for supporting stupid and criminal is not being represented until they elect the next stupid criminal.  It's not that onerous.

I'm thrilled this vote came to pass in my home state. fark this asshole, with a rake.

The fact it took 6 months and they let this farking clown keep his job until not only video of him committing the crime, but of him planning it explicitly and directly, came out, is infuriating however. He needs to be behind farking bars.

And yet the Re-Thuglican Traitors in Washington are still planning on how they can suppress voting so that they can re-take the Country and give actual rebates to Billionaires since they already eliminated their taxes under Bush and Trump!

Unbelievably disingenuous and completely on brand.

That sounds more on brand and I'm still surprised they voted him out

Rather surprised that the GOP didn't flee east into Idaho to deny the quorum.

Even more surprised that the vote was essentially unanimous.
