Bob Ray (the Republican I actually admired) welcomed 1,500 Tai Dam refugees despite rumbles of protest in the state.  That was back when I was proud to be an Iowan.

The Iowa Bureau of Refugee Services is the only entity run by a state government that is certified as a resettlement agency by the U.S. State Department, which in my mind's eye is a great legacy.

This woman is an embarrassment.

Maybe different reasons? But still

From Another Source : "Two of the 19 children were unified with sponsors at the Des Moines International Airport, the source confirmed. The other children were bused to "locations in or near" Kansas City, Missouri, Janesville, Wisconsin, Chicago, Illinois, Fort Wayne, Indiana and Detroit, Michigan"

Also, #KovidKim never fails to insert her little QAnon dog whistle that the flights might have been "human trafficking."

There's plenty of illegal immigrants in that state but folks just pretend there aren't.  They play up the drama on this stuff as cover.

Oh FFS

FTA: Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds' office said Thursday that 19 refugee children were flown to Des Moines and transported to sponsor families last month, despite her previous rejection of a federal request that immigrant children be housed in Iowa.

They aren't even free-range, unsupervised, welfare-siphoning, anchor-baby-popping, refugees. Nothing even remotely controversial, not even in the wildest ofetid schizo-demented rants of a Tucker Jones.

They are families who live with sponsor families.

They are antifa!!!!!

In 2019, under Republican President Donald Trump, Reynolds consented to accepting refugees from the federal government.

Oh. Never mind.

"This is not our problem. This is the president's (Biden's) problem," Reynolds said April 8 on WHO-AM radio in Des Moines. "He's the one that has opened the border and he needs to be responsible for this and he needs to stop it."

I see. What was that weasel word you'uns use. Unk... unk... unknown. No, that's not it. Oh yeah, unity. You'uns want unity, right? That something you crow about from every rooftop 24/7.

/they don't want it
//they want the opposite
///but we all know that

A federal agency first denying and then admitting that they managed the flight in question is problematic and does warrant an investigation, but for some reason I do not believe that is Governor Reynolds's real problem with the situation.

Right off the bat I'm going to claim ignorance on how this whole thing works because it makes no sense, RE: alienating children from their parents by keeping the kids and sending the adults back across the border.

It's farking madness.  If ANY other country tried pulling that same shiat with American citizens then it would be farking war within a day.

Nebraska is a Dittohead Deutschland. It's so farking red that even it's "democrats" are goose-stepping shiatheels.

And as awful as Reynolds is, Nebraska's Governor Lex Luthor is a hundred times more vile (NE is a GLEEFULLY death penalty state. Iowa doesn't have DP).

No she is not. The federal government has allowed them to remain in the US as refugees and just like anyone else in the country, they have the right to travel freely within its borders.

Yeah, but then Democrats would probably push to have the first state be somewhere like Texas.

Because Iowa gets one moment of relevancy every four years before slinking back to obscurity. They made their state law to go first ahead of everyone. So the election committees go to Iowa first for the primary.

I know this was rhetorical but it's as simple as that. They like the limelight and pageantry of having every candidate come in with a greasy hand job about what a great state it is with their corn dogs, and corn, and fried butter.

Except that's not what this is about. This is about unaccompanied minors.

Basically, a kid makes it across the border without a parent or guardian with them. They claim asylum, get an immigration court date, and get sent on their merry. In these cases, that means getting placed with sponsor families. No governor has the power to stop the federal government from placing unaccompanied migrant children with the families that volunteer to take them in. It doesn't matter if the governor is a Democrat or a racist piece of shiat, the feds are going to do it anyway because the states simply don't enter into the equation. If the feds wanted to use state foster care systems to house these kids, then governors can stop that.

Lying to the governor and the state Congressional delegation isn't a good look, but neither is an angry mob of Nazis meeting these kids at the airport. If a Republican politician finds out that these kids are going to sponsor families in their state, what assurances does HHS have that the politician won't call a press conference to biatch about "violations of state sovereignty" and "importing criminals" and other such racist nonsense? What assurances does the federal government have that the slack-jawed yokels won't get wound up enough by such a press conference to do stupid shiat?

Quite frankly, it's not really the state government's business what arrangements are made for these children, and if a member of Congress wants to know so badly, they can convince the relevant committee to issue a subpoena.

Do we have potato farms?  Isn't that Idaho?

Anyway, I can imagine being someone who needs their family by growing plants coming to Iowa from a rainforest.  It must seem like food is just appearing on its own.  Rainforest soil is terrible.

The people here are horrible.  But it's very easy to grow things.

misanthropicsob: Yeah, but then Democrats would probably push to have the first state be somewhere like Texas.

The ultimate troll would be to move it to Texas and then pass HR1 (the bill making Jim Crow illegal... again).

Polling and analysis of actual voting patterns indicate that without Jim Crow laws in place Texas has been consistently leaning slightly toward (D) for presidential races since 2008 or so and would likely end up with coin-flip senate races. And without Gerrymandering we'd be full of battleground districts, most likely.

Texas is far from unique in this, actually. Iowa and maybe Montana are the only really solid GOP strongholds without Jim Crow and gerrymandering outside of parts of the deep south too obvious to deny what's going on. Like... the farking Carolinas have potentially relevant Democrat voter bases. The ship has sailed on the GOP being a minority party, it left the dock a decade ago and it ain't coming back.

Basically it's Iowa or nothing for the official party of racism.

Kim is upset because the children didn't first present to her their "papers, please".

What makes her think she has the right to track these children around the country, much less tell then where they can't go?

Your average Red State GOP dipshiat thinks these 19 kids will vote in 2022 and swing Iowa into a Borg Socialist Collective.  Seriously, I bet in the next 24 hours some Iowa GOP dipshiat claims these kids are there by way of some Democrat conspiracy to steal 2022 with illegal immigrant votes.

In fact, actual, non-racist evangelicals would jump at the chance to potentially convert more young children.  (Not that that's really good either, but...)
