I LOVE THESE VIDEOS!!!!

Over height sign flashing to beat hell. At night it could trigger an epileptic fit, for crying out loud. If you watch this often, you might also be wondering why Penske trucks seem to be disproportionately featured throughout the series.

Great therapy for me over the course of the pandemic. So cathartic. Please forgive my blatant gushing and I take full responsibility for this view.

why don't they just raise that bridge already, or lower the road?

Can we just link directly to Eleven Foot Eight's Youtube instead of feeding the clickbait tracker sites?

This was more of a fair fight. A very valiant attempt, but failed to take out the bridge. Needs a bigger horse and a stronger lance. This bridge is more formidable than a windmill.

Should posthumously name the truck/crane Rocinante.

This is how it's done.

Someone did a smaller version of that to a bridge near me, had to have 1 lane shut down and completely torn down and rebuilt. That bridge being one lane for about 6 months was super inconvenient because there wasn't an alternate for about 4 miles north or south.

Somewhere, National Crane is trying to decide if this is a PR nightmare, or a moment to brag their crane roughed up 11-foot-8.

Can you blame Fark? These videos are always entertaining where the bridge hungers for steel, plastic, fiberglass, etc.

bud jones: why don't they just raise that bridge already, or lower the road?

They have already done that, it is why the website is called 11'8" + 8"  That extra 8" inches is when they adjusted the track alignment and lowered the road a bit.  They can't really do much more as it will affect the rail grade if they lift the bridge, and they can't lower the road more as it would create a dip that could cause damage to vehicles undercariage. See the why don't they fix it section of the FAQ: http://11foot8.com/11foot8-faq/

It's a national embarrassment. Farking request federal funds if needed to dig down five feet. JFC. Here in salt lake when they were installing light rail they dug a major surface street (4 lanes) down about 10 feet or so such that the light rail could easily pass overhead at one particular juncture.

Sewer lines under it iirc, and there is an at-grade crossing like 2 blocks down. So the taxpayers should spend millions of dollars because drivers are dumbasses? Nah this is way more entertaining.

Whatever. It's not civilized. You must be one of those new gen people that thrives off of continuous pain. It truly is stupid. And I'm sure engineering a solution would be simple. Maybe some money but solutions are there. But simpletons like you prefer watch others in pain. Okay.

If I remember correctly, this occurred over I-70 in Kansas. I suspect the locals weren't very happy about the inconvenience either.

The solution, which is both simple and inexpensive, is for trucks to take another route. This isn't an interstate highway here.

Yeah. There's sewer under there. Sewer uses slope and gravity to move sewage. They can't just lower the pipes.

It's not polite to smart your own posts. Even accidentally. If someone else thought that was smart, I have no explanation.

Cheap easy solution is to close the road so the poster won't have to read messages about the accidents.

Seems like this could easily be fixed with some sensors and at least a visual "No Go" but preferably including an audible warning. Alternately truckers could be more aware of their load and route but that seems to be a pretty tall ask given how much this happens.

It is. The fact that we let people operate these machines when they aren't willing to pay attention to the signs telling them they can't go there is a disgrace.

there are sensors and a sign that says "Overheight. Must Turn" that flashes on to tall loads. Idiots STILL drive through it.

Expecting everyone to read every sign all the time is basically setting yourself up for disaster, which is why civil engineers generally avoid building things around that concept at all costs. Stupid people just are (and lets be real, at some point, all of us have been, and will be, the stupid person about something at some point) particularly in public, many of these vehicles aren't being driven by people with CDL training or lots of truck experience, and this particular piece of infrastructure just isn't really built to standards that account for that.

If something is a consistent problem for well over a decade, just blaming it on stupid people isn't going to make the problem go away unless you remove all the people.

Perhaps!!!!
I'm reminded every time I'm on one of my motorcycles about how different being on the road is when you have zero distractions.

I try to leave my phone alone but if I'm traveling anywhere it almost always has gps or Apple Music up.  I need to be more aware of that.

Oooooor

He's having fun because if I am driving a truck I will know the height of my truck? And I would certainly not speed through under a bridge with this many warning signs?

The people who hit this bridge are willfully ignoring all those signs. It's akin to someone, perhaps like you, asking why a nuclear power plant allowed a moron to get close to nuclear waste, after they made an effort to climb over the rail, dodge security guards, sneak past scientists, pick the locked door.

I'm sorry but at this point if a driver gets their truck damaged it's fully on them. There are flashing signs everywhere.

HOW STUPID DO YOI HAVE TO BE TO BE A TRUCK DRIVER GOING UNDER THIS BRIDGE

If the sewage doesn't fit you must acquit, or dig it down and then pump it up.  You can send my $5000 civil engineering consulting fee to Fark in care of Drew who will get it to me. I trust him.
