When I think how over the top my young cousins go on baby proofing their homes for the new ones. Every thing you can buy they have it. Etc.

And then some people don't give it a thought at all.

I wondered how much effort it would take to write a more poorly written article.

Then, I wondered if the author was paid or if the article was written by a software program.

Finally, I experienced a moment of rage that either someone who writes that badly was paid for that article or, once again, a software engineering team has knocked someone out of work with an inferior substitute.

there is a growing segment of the population in NJ that prefers to have junkyard style dogs they can scare other people with. rottweilers, shephards, pit bulls. all fine animals when raised properly. instead they are raised by the type of chuckleheads that Fark types champion how wonderfull it is they are here in America. it's fine for them because it's obvious they can afford to live in neighborhoods where these chuckleheads and their practices don't exist.

A 10ft fall for a 3-year-old is around 3 to 4 times their height.  Fall risk is usually figured in a 'distance vs height' approach.  That alone is a life threatening injury.

I would be curious to see what the cause of death is decided to be.

It does have a procedurally generated feel. For comparison:

"A NJ toddler fell out of a window and was mauled by dogs. Police found the boy's parents when they returned to the home An 18-month-old boy is being treated in hospital for dog bites after a fall in Newark, New Jersey. Police say the toddler, who was not identified, fell from a first-floor window at a home in the Fardale Avenue area of the city on Friday evening. He was hospitalized with a facial injury and multiple dog bites. The parents of the child returned to their home and found him lying in the street by the home."

A computer wrote everything but the first sentence. Not a real article.

Just to be a bit of a geek, that is normally figured into an adult, usually male, and a study of fall injuries from adult males.

The less mass you have, the greater a height you can fall from. Squirrels and cats can fall at or near terminal velocity and be more fine than humans can. Horses and elephants weigh so much that anything more than 6 feet can cause life ending injuries.

But a direct hit to the head or spine does every animal in. That's almost a given.

My last dog was a "badass" in appearance (huge Akita) but really just a large goofnut who loved children. If it were my three y/o who fell from a window he likely would picked it up by the scruff, hoisted it, and walked him to the ER.

The problem with pitbulls isn't pitbulls..it's that too many of them are raised improperly, used to.fight, and that the media can't stop talking about them.

That said, that poor child. What a terrible series of events. And even if the kid was dead from the fall before the dogs got to him, what an awful sight for family to to witness. Even more so as the dogs belonged to them.

Definitely.  It could have been the fall.  It could have been the doggos.  Unlike the squirrels and cats, the baby human probably didn't have a tail to control the fall angle with.  My suspicion (and truly pulling out of my guess work) is that the kid was going to be pretty seriously injured to start with before the puppers had a vote.

The child was still alive when picked up by the ambulance. He died an hour later in the hospital. Maybe he would have died from injuries sustained in the fall, even if the dogs had not attacked. However, he was still alive when they attacked him.

The article I read says the kid died about an hour after arriving at the hospital. He might have died due to injuries from the fall, but he was not dead before the dogs started ripping into him and gnawing parts of his body off(I'm assuming that's what the dogs did). Even so, I think the most awful sight the family saw was when they had to play tug of war with two pitbulls, yanking on the kid's body as the pitbulls did that cute thing dogs do when you play tug of war with them, they sort of bounce up and down. Not that it was cute in this instance, I'm just saying it's fun playing tug of war with dogs. You have to let them win sometimes though, otherwise you'll break their spirit. That's not a problem with these dogs because their days of tug of war are over unless someone at the animal shelter gets careless.

If a dog kills someone, put them in a dog jail.  If a human kills a dog, put them in the same dog jail for yard time.

I think, just like people, some dogs are just mental, no matter how well they are raised and treated. Pit bulls get the majority of the bad press, but I really think it's just the because they are the breed of the moment. People used to be afraid of german shepards, or chows, or dobermans. In twenty years it'll be some other breed getting the bad press.

Historically - it's always been pit bulls. The UKC was founded because the AKC didn't want pit bulls or their riff raff in their country club. Later they brought them in anyways under the Am Staff name, in UKC they're shown as the same breed. There are people showing Am Staffs now who used to fight their dogs in Mexico "on vacation" until the late 70'/early 80's.
