"steal" source code, "taken" more than 780 GB of data?  Does EA not have it anymore, do they not have backups?  Or do they mean someone downloaded a copy of their files?  Makes it sound like they don't have it anymore.

I contracted with EA for a year and I would be surprised if: A. they were doing backups, B. anyone knew where the backups were and C. the backups, if they existed and could be found, would actually work.

When I was there, the DBA had the root password for the main server.

Once upon a time, I was in a position of quasi-authority at EARS.  Orange badges suffered.  Blue badges suffered more, because we (mostly) bought into the lie that it was all worth it.

They won't have backups of the "stolen" code.  The only guy that knew how to pull backups off the division NetApp most likely rage-quit six months ago, and the chimps they have doing infra architecture from Accenture haven't a goddamned clue how to operate anything without a GUI.

(not bitter)

My buddy works for EA sports in Tampa, has for the last 15 years and everything about his job looks awesome. He's the lead dev on the golf titles and always talks well about the position. Were it not in Florida, I would have applied years ago.

I think it's funny that EA continues to get hate. Over the last few years they have changed their tune on a lot of things, from free dlcs to every single one of their games being available on steam so that origin isn't needed. Best support experience I've ever had with a game company too.

But I guess it's only cool to hate them for no particular reason.

They're available on Steam, but (unsurprisingly) way overpriced. They're just as shiatty as any other AAA-game publisher.

BF6 is going to be such a sh*tshow.

???

EA Origin is having a sale right now so their prices are half what they are on Steam, but that's temporary.

nakmuay: They're just as shiatty as any other AAA-game publisher.

I used to think so, until Epic became bigger. EA listened and changed their tune. Just as an example as to what changed my perspective, it was one support incident. I got locked out of my account by someone in Russia. I went to their website and was able to request a support rep to call ME. They called within 5 minutes of my request, I had access to my account within 5 minutes of that. They were helpful and easy to work with.

nakmuay: BF6 is going to be such a sh*tshow.

I can't wait for it personally. As I've mentioned in the other BF threads, I have over 1200 hours played just over 4, Hardline, 1 and V. Probably my favorite shooter series of all time.

Notice how they never mention the server OS that was hacked.......

Windows would be a wise guess

On sale now, yes, the rest of the year they tend to stay at full price. I picked up BF1 & 4 on Origin for $10 each, but Steam prices stayed at $50 until recently. That being said, Origin is their platform, and I get why they'd want to maintain home-field advantage.

Never had any support experience with them, so I can't speak to that, but I'm glad it worked out.

I played the sh*t out of BFBC2/Vietnam and BF3, but skipped BF4 & 1 until launch issues were resolved, and have had fun with both since. My main beef with them (and their competitors) is making buggy, incomplete and clusterf*ck launches the norm. And now with the stolen code, it looks like cheaters will be ready to go on Day 1.

While I hope I'm wrong, I don't think I'll be.

No one is boycotting or tearing down Rockstar for their participation in crunch, so I don't know why EA gets picked out because of it.

I just don't hate anything when it comes to games. If you do, great. But it isn't for me.

You can get the EA games on Steam, but they launch Origin in the background anyway.  I would much prefer it if you didn't actually need another launcher installed, and it's not hard to get used to, but it's not pure Steam.

I mean that's kind of like judging what working at Ubisoft is like by looking at the board members, instead of the lower level workers constantly sexually harassed.

I mean I have heard some pretty good things about high level positions in places like EA or otherwise, however wasn't the last EA golf game like 6 years ago?  Has he just been working on this new title for next year for the whole time?

Here's something funny though, on the new Halo game one of the character artists put a 20k polygon on one of Masterchief's feet so he could make it look like he's optimizing by removing it.
