Support for game streaming is not the same as having a full-blown console. Still, if you've got decent broadband this should be a nice perk that doesn't add much cost to a TV you were going to buy anyway.

They're trying to move away from a console you buy once to giving you something you have to pay for monthly.

That's the capitalist business model.

They're going to call the next one XBox 2?

Hey, someone at MS saw what Google was doing and said, "that's going great! Let's try it!"

Honestly since they already have a physical console I'm surprised they're not attempting Nvidia's approach - own an Xbox? Great! Buy our X-Stick and stream to any device in your home!

They could still charge a "premium" service that lets users stream from their home console to a remote device.  But then I guess the execs don't get to be all tech savvy and talk about The Cloud.

Microsoft started the subscription/leasing model all the way back at the start.

I imagine the only reason they didnt start doing this with games sooner was post Explorer v Netscape ptsd.

Say what you want but Microsoft has come a long way. Windows 10 is solid as fark at this point and their Game Pass model is spot on..  Microsoft Flight Simulator is oustanding and their development team is the most forthright I've ever seen holding routing Q&A sessions with fans, embracing 3rd party developers and generally being open to suggestions.

Put a camera and Skype on it, and all of the people who were angry about skype disappearing on smart tvs will be suckered into buying one.

No, "Xbox Two"

I'd settle for just being able to get a goddamn new console.

So would that be a blue screen of death, a red ring of death ON a blue screen of death, or just a pair of middle fingers floating around the screen when it breaks
