Watchdog:  "So you've been using Clearview to run a mass surveillance program and place everybody in a police lineup against their will and without their knowledge?"

RCMP:  "We wouldn't do that, eh.  That'd be against the rules."

Media: "Well - looky here!  We just found out the RCMP have been using Clearview to run a mass surveillance program and place everybody in a police lineup against their will and without their knowledge!  Here's the receipts."

RCMP: "Ohhhhh... that Clearview!  Yeah, we only use it every once in a while.  You know, for the kids."

Watchdog: "So that accounts for maybe a few percentage points of your searches.  What about the rest?"

RCMP: "Ummmm... Give us a minute.  There's a very good reason and we'll tell you what it is later."

Do you have an expectation of privacy when you are in public?

Yeah, didn't think so

Clearview AI stretches the definition of "in public" well past the breaking point.

something like the Jan6 investigation where cops are specifically searching for videos of a known crime is one thing.
preemptively trying to archive every picture of a face on the internet so you can cross-tab it with personal info and known relationships just in case theres a police request in the future.  specifically as a product to sell to cops.  no they can go fark themselves.

Do you have an expectation of being yanked off the street and thrown into a lineup at any moment while you're in public?

Yeah, didn't think so.
