Looks ridiculous and well-aware of it, so could be a lot of fun. I've wondered if a Masters of the Universe live-action show could catch on these days, like a weird dark fantasy drama.

Well, at least Prince Adam looks different in his normal life than when he's He-Man. The original show pretty much just was a costume change & that's it. But hey, if Supes can put on glasses & fool everyone, I guess 80's He-Man gets a pass too. I might just have to watch this to see how many View Askewverse reference they manage to sneak in.

It would have to be gritty. And have scenes of He-Man crying while shooting up roids to keep up with the villains

Heh. I was thinking relying heavily on Robert E. Howard stories for inspiration and the flavor enhancer to the Saturday morning cartoon madness.

I will watch this, but unfortunately Mark Hamill can not do an epic Skeletor voice. I do applaud the choice of music for the trailer.

i mean 40 years on now i can;t say i have any expectations for a toy promo cartoon from my childhood to hold any modern day meaningful interest for me now. If it's show for kids i have no doubt they can enjoy it far more than i can, just like i used to when the adults couldn't.

Why doesn't skeletor have a "starscream?" How did they avoid that trope in that era?

The MOTU comics from DC a couple of years ago were pretty gritty: Orko is possessed by a demon and turns evil, giving Skeletor the opportunity to conquer Castle Grayskull. He captures the Sorceress and tortures her to death. The other protagonists are given false memories. Queen Marlena is stuck on Earth. Things get worse and then they get better again. During the memorial service for the Sorceress, Eternia is attacked by the Horde under the command of Horde-captain Adora ...

That was such a terrible movie with Dolph Lundgren.

Still haven't forgiven my dad for donating my Castle Grayskull playset when he thought I was too old for it and hadn't played with it for a while. I went to drag it out of the closet one day and it wasn't there. :(

I'm sure it will be PG-13 at worst, so kids can watch it, but this series was made for middle aged men who found success in film after directing a famous independent film about convenience store workers in the 90's.

Watching the first few episodes again a few years ago gave me a better understanding of things. It wasn't that He-Man was some bad mofo, it is just that Skeletor and his minions came to define incompetence. Cobra Commander was miles better than Skeletor and his underlings were awful but really, they could have mopped the floor with Skeletor's henchmen. One or two cases of farking it up goes on Beast Man and the like but eventually it falls at Skeletor's feet to have done better. The guy was just really bad at his job and made it easy for He-Man.

The playset that folded open like a book and had a trapdoor among other things?  I had that when I was 5 or so.  Was pretty cool.

I will never, ever understand how the Masters of the Toy Commercial got so popular or how the characters have such a big, rabid fanbase.

The show was terrible. Turr. Ee. Bull.

You don't see crazy Silverhawks fans. You don't see fans of The Herculoids demanding a reboot or collecting overpriced toys... But MotU is just, I dunno, weirdly popular despite being as bad or worse than those two shows.

And yet we still haven't had an updated version of the old Dungeons & Dragons show. I mean, they made two or three D&D movies and never thought to continue that show's story?!

Pop culture be f#cked up, yo.

That She Ra didn't actually have any ties to He Man.

Heman was rebooted in the early aughts. IIRC, this is a sequel to that reboot.

Occasionally these posts come up and I start thinking about the changes you'd have to make to get the thing to be even slightly 'believable' and I can get there with Thundercats but I think He-Man is just beyond saving.  You'd have to change it to the point there was almost nothing left.

The She Ra reboot did that and it rocked.

The He Man reboot just ... was better. writing, art, Fisto: everything.

I was never into MoTU as  a kid. But I was impressed with the 2011 revival, the She-Ra revival, and this is shaping up to look great. I mean....Orko isn't a stock comedy relief character and looks like he's actually useful.
