Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich wants to get to the bottom of it. "The President is using Arizona as an experiment with his reckless border policies," the elected Republican said. "I will continue to stand up for Arizonans and do everything I can to stop the Biden Administration's attempt to abolish ICE."

One, he's whining about Biden abolishing ICE in response to Biden using ICE to deal with immigrants. It might be that he's full of shiat and just expressing faux concern.

Two:that "elected" Republican, since I have been assured that the election in Arizona was 100% corrupt. He should really step down.

GardenWeasel: NIMBY gonna NIMBY

I don't even think it's Nimby.  The signs all these people are holding up are things like "Democrats did this", and "illegal immigrants", and the amount of American flags they're waving make me doubt they're the Democrat votes the "article" implies they are.  They may or may not be residents of Scottsdale isn't exactly crunchy granola, but the vibe the protesters are putting out is much more in line with the slightly more palatable affluent AZ version of MAGA.

2021-06-10 11:10:38 AM
Would these "democrats" rather them put the immigrants back into the concentration camps?  This is a win/win: immigrants get decent housing and the local hotel gets money it desperately needs which trickles into the community (through sales tax and employee tax revenue).

My nextdoor feed has been insufferable. The racism and ignorance are battling for dominance. For every rational comment supporting decency and the rights of asylum seekers, there's a fever pitch of "illegall boarder crossers," the Constitution!, out of control border, think of the children (the site is near a high school where the students drive cars worth more than my annual salary out of grad school), the libs are the intolerant ones., ad nauseum.

They showed the protest on the local news. It looked like the Onion article "Area man passionate about what he believes the Constitution to be" come to life. Racist talking points thinly veiled with "law and order" window dressing.

None of these chucklefarks are able to understand the asylum process let alone show a shred of empathy.

Here in AL, there's not a lot of in-between. It's almost entirely wealthy white people funding poor black people.

Which sounds callous, but when you realize the controlling Republicans are wealthy white people keeping black people down, it's a necessary balance.

Paraphrasing an old saying about Liberalism, you either have to be able to fund the programs, or be a recipient of the programs.

The irony is how many Trumpers would actually be beneficiaries of social programs...

My grandparents on my father's side (who have passed a decade or so ago) lived in Scottsdale, in a modest, 1950's tract house.  I guess it's grown in snobbery recently, by when I visited them as a child and as a younger adult, the heat was the main thing of note there.

Insurrectionist party members are all for "due process", for themselves, if it means they can press pause on progress.

These particular Insurrectionist party members are free to go to court and find out precisely how much process is due to them.

That actually would work. The van conversion industry alone would make the economy go.
Then there are all those food trucks run by highly motivated immigrants to the benefit of the general public.

I lived in Scottsdale for two years.  During the late fall to early spring, the weather in that area of AZ is amazing.  Sun all day, 70's and 80's, cool and dry breeze.  Basically as good as you can get without being on the SoCal coast.  So there is that allure.  In the summertime, temps regularly hit 110 degrees and it's absolutely miserable outside.  You also get those errant dust storms that coast everything in a nice brown crust.

I was also there until mid-2003 before the housing market really blew up.  Nice homes were affordable and the economy was still going strong. Lots of conspicuous spending.  You had car dealers selling H2's with 22-inch chrome rims to white suburban folks (not kidding) on money they pulled from their HELOCs or on subprime auto loans.  Clubs and bars were hopping.  The term "$30,000 millionaire" was used to describe much of the local citizenry: solidly middle class but spending like they were big ballers.  Their shiat got rekt just a few years later.

Who's getting Methadone clinics put in literally next door? As opposed to just "in the neighborhood".

More to the point, what did people think was going on at these converted properties before? Did they think people weren't engaging in drug use and sex acts and other such things in neighborhood hotels?
