All the tourist grafts are going to be going 500% this year to make up for lost revenue and because people are going to be really, really loose with money this summer.

I won't be doing any overnight stuff until the fall.  Let the crazies get it out of their system first.

Fark short term rentals and their owners and visitors.

Let the buyer beware.

If the fees are disclosed at the time of booking, you're free to either accept or reject them at the time of booking.

If they aren't disclosed at the time of booking, then there's no contractual basis for you to pay them.

Yet another reason to avoid airbnb and its ilk.

"And while some fees are legit, most are just clever ways to enrich an owner."

More precisely, they're a clever way to get your rental to show up as cheaper in searches. Advertise it for $150 a night, then tack on $300 in fees at checkout.

Right - if the overall price is a reasonable value (e.g., low nightly rates + idiotic fees = acceptable overall price), then fine, go for it.  If not, then don't.

Although even then, advertising a low rate and then jacking the price after someone is halfway through the booking process is a good way to get me to go with the more-expensive-but-not-an-asshole place that's upfront with costs.

Only a naïve person would think that a four bedroom cabin at Cannon Beach would cost $147 a night. A one bedroom would probably cost more than that.

Just a way to advertize one price and charge another.

Welcome to America. We eat our own.

been to a rental or storage place lately? it's insane how many fake fees they all have, and their is collusion among every shop in town. they all gladly and equally screw you. unethical people that manage to stay in business are a pox on society.
