Good. There needs to be a system where the plague rats can't just print off a card to avoid the consequences of being a plague rat.

So idiot governors in TX and FL passed laws forbidding businesses from even asking if someone is vaccinated, making it nearly impossible to provide reasonable assurances that large scale events, cruises, and so on won't become superspreader Petri dishes.

Businesses should counter with campaigns that offer discounts if you voluntarily provide proof of vaccination.

That might incentivize a percentage of holdouts to get it, but there will still be hardcore idiots who refuse to be good citizens.

I like this for the elitism. What's the point of being in the vaccinated elite if there aren't people to look down on, and flaunt privileges too? (Besides the immunity to covid, that's a given)

I don't like this for the privacy violation, which is why I love hipaa. NYS asked me to release my vaccination record, I told them to F off. If I thought the government was qualified to analyze stats in the first place, the anonymous data is enough.

The "discount for voluntarily providing proof" isn't too bad, but the issues I see are -

1) It doesn't counter the big issue, which is the little flimsy vaccine cards are too easy to fake

And

B) The antivaxxers don't need another thing they can use to scream "discrimination".  (Even though they'll pull the exact same crap).

lol. You'll get over it. Or not be allowed to travel anywhere. Either way, the good guys win.

I have my card and excelsior pass on my phone, I can travel at will. Makes you wonder why NYS would ask me to release medical data when I already had their pass. Trusting the government is like dating robots. Don't do it.

Yeah but you also supported the Trump riot as "moderate", so nobody really gives a crap what you think.

Restricting travel without approval from the Government is not the same as restricting entry to people who can't prove they're not a credible danger to themselves and others.

Stop joking about how they are the same.  You'll confuse the stupids.

There's also no standardization on how the cards are filled out. The CVS where I had my vaccinations, just filled out all the info by hand. I see other people that have cards where there is a sticker showing the type of vaccine and lot number.
Seems like it would have been a good idea for the CDC to have mandated a standard where faking these cards would have not been so simple as having heavy paper stock, and a printer.

Not any different than the ability to forge a yellow card or lie about not recently having been in MERS/SARS/yellow fever territory, which has always been the case.

Yes, it would be nice if there were a globally-standardized or -accepted methodology that was more verifiable. But we can't keep international travel shut down for the next four years while all the governments of the world figure shiat out. And any standard would need to have a physical version anyway (like a printout of the QR code) for people without mobile devices.

Long story short... it's good enough for now. We don't need to fark over the 80% because a few of the 20% might pull some shenanigans.

The government needs you alive and healthy to extract taxes from.  There are certain situations you can trust the government.

I swear to farking god, we could have saved civilization had we taken some time to teach our peers the concept of motive.  Even in a world where everyone is out to get everyone else, there are ways to know when someone isn't trying to screw you.

Compared to all riots during the year, the "riot" on Jan 6 barely registers on the severity scale.

Now in Quebec we have a QR code too. Printable as well

Anyone can check it, and the paper scans as well as the phone

That's not going to happen in the US. That's what I think, at least.

Even if I were on the "everybody needs to get vaccinated or you are scum" team, I would feel this way.

Too much backlash, and if the issue gets pushed too hard, I can see state border crossing protests happening.

The fear on the one side will only be turned into panic and rage once the "plague rats" decide to put the vaccines' effectiveness to the test.

I don't think it will get that far in the USA.
