If he's only in it for money then the Dems should just pay him double whatever anyone else offers him.

What the clown does and says is of little import. What IS important is how the clown can be persuaded to vote. Koch puts up the cash and Manchin can be counted on. That's all that matters.

Hey, do y'all remember all the exhaustive and angry screeds exhorting leftists ignored and unrepresented by the Democratic party to vote for Democrats because the Republicans are an existential threat and if we don't vote against them the nation is doomed?

And then, by and large, we did?

It'd be real nice if someone collected all those, printed them out in a compendium, and then used it to beat Joe Manchin about the face and neck until he's willing to actually act as a member of the party and do what must be done to protect the Democratic system.

And then do a large-font hardcover printing to switch to when he insists that not allowing the people attempting to overthrow our democracy to participate in writing the rules to protect our democracy is partisan and wrong.

The only reason it could even be considered partisan is because our government and media are both so controlled by right wing interests that they keep insisting that facism and white supremacy are legitimate political opinions worthy of consideration, and of equal value to the right wing liberalism espoused by most democrats, while any opinion to the left is the delusions of crazy people or evil.\Relevant to this thread too

The Republicans won't kill the filibuster until they gain the presidency again to keep up appearances. S.o if the GOP takes control of the house and senate in 2022, they still won't kill the filibuster until 2024 provided they take the presidency too, then they will solidify power.

Manchin should go down in history as a traitor to the party, to the American people, and to Democracy itself.

If I have to live through the collapse of the United States because of this quisling, I hope he suffers a great deal before his fascist friends execute him.

And the fact that Democrats refuse to disavow this slime as one of their says everything you need to know about the party.

There are plenty of rightward leaning centrists, even if you don't acknowledge them.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_Chafee was Republican, became independent. Then went from independent to Democratic. Then went Libertarian. Chafee was the only Republican in the Senate to vote against the Iraq War.

Oh yeah, there certainly is a whole contingent of rightward centrists. I don't have a problem with that. What irks me about Manchin are the games he plays and the flip-flopping of positions with no consistent reason why. In this case, it is really unclear why he is (again) making a big show of this. Usually pols who pull this crap are angling for an elevation to a higher office, but other than governor or president, there is not much for Mancin to go for and he is not up for election for a couple years.

So that leaves the issue he is not being honest as to the reasons and is being influenced to play the part of political cock-blocker. I realize that is a simplistic explanation but I am at a loss for a better reason.

Oh well....Its nothing new with him. Just another episode of the The Manchin Show™.

He was also borderline brain dead. I mean that. He was really REALLLLLLLY stupid. Like "daddy was really rich and bought me everything so I don't have to think at all ever" kinda dumb.

I was glad he voted against the war AND Bush's tax cuts.., but they both still passed and count for nothing in the real world.

I am giving him the benefit of the doubt, where I believe he means if the Republicans take control of the white house and senate/congress (if Republicans take control in 2024), they will kill the filibuster while keeping it in for now so they can not have the Democrats pass their agenda. Similar to how we had an open Supreme Court seat, and the Republicans ran out the clock until they stopped Garland from being appointed and put in their own monkey. Republicans will hold back things from Democrats when they can, then turn around and automatically use it against Democrats to get their way, while yelling "sucker!" and Manchin is just doing what the Republicans want (probably because of Koch money he's been bribed with).
