Dave became cool dad.

Krist became weird Libertarian dad.

Pat was already aging punk rocker dad and he more or less continued on that path

Foo Fighters are generic rock music for guys who think fancy mustard is "too spicy."

Novoselic was in a band called Eyes Adrift. It had Curt Kirkwood of the Meat Puppets (Guitars/Vocals), Novoselic (Bass), and Bud Gaugh of Sublime (drums). They made one eponymous album in 2002 and that was it. At the time Kirkwood was on the outs with his twin brother (Puppets Bassist), who had also recently been shot at an Arizona post office. Novoselic and Gaugh had both lost strong frontmen in bands they played in. I really liked the album and I imagine it came together out of jamming with buddies. It's only tangentially related to this but if you like the Meat Puppets, Nirvana, Sublime it's worth a listen.

This is the single from the album

Get mad but I'll be 48 next month and Foo Fighters are the worst band since Nickleback and the only thing Dave Grohl has touched that hasn't been good musically.

I like the first two albums and then meh... I feel like I say that about a lot of artists but FF is an extreme case because the meh is strong.

I mean, I like almost everything and I have to struggle to remember one Foo Fighter's riff or hook or chorus or anything. They are just a blank wiki page in my head.

Guitar bass drums and vocals go in one end of the sausage machine and a smooth homogenous tube of noise comes out the other.

LOL! Is this a question of popularity, skill level, or taste?

Music is subjective in multiple ways. IMHO, both bands sold a lot of stuff, Nirvana put a certain kind of stuff out there and was a factor in the awareness factor for grunge or garage, Nirvana wanted to throw a punk vibe in with their brand of rock and ended up taking themselves MUCH too seriously and Kurt decided breathing oxygen wasn't punk enough. As far as skill level goes, Grohl would land in last place among all the players here but these kinds of tunes don't require anything advanced. Grohl has practiced enough through the years so as not to embarrass himself and actually, Foo shows are a lot of fun for a lot of people. Taylor Hawkins is a pretty good drummer when he isn't shoving smack into a vein and actually, I think he's been good at fighting the tough fight. Dave Grohl is a cool cat and his peers think so as well. Kurt Cobain always reminded me of a self-important Jim Morrison.

Thank you for playing my game!

psilocyberguy: As far as skill level goes

...what makes you think Kurt Cobain was a particularly good musician? Grohl is far from a genius, but he's clearly more talented that Cobain was.

Also, when was the last time folks listened to what Nirvana put out before Grohl?
Bleach sucks. Most of Incesticide (which is mostly pre-nevermind) is not listenable.

Nirvana scratches an itch when you're a teenager and it really doesn't hold up after that.

He was no Richard Thompson, but KC was a great songwriter and his guitar playing served his songs.

Kurt Cobain and The Sunshine Band.

It's nice The Sunshine Band can still get together.

Just don't call it Nirvana and they could release it no problem.

I was living in CA at the time, heading into traffic on the El Toro Y after work one day. The DJ on KROQ was hyping Nevermind, which was brand-spanking new. He playing a song. Then he says I'm going to play another. He kept hyping the album and ended up playing the whole thing in the time it took me to pass through the Y. I resisted the hype at first but I was head banging at the end. I like Foo Fighters, but they never did anything that hit like Nevermind.

Yes I agree with you, I was too lazy to elaborate on my point which was basically that technical ability has fark all to do with making good music

Oh, I was agreeing with you. Thompson was the first great songwriter who is also a technically skilled guitarist that came to mind. Kurt's guitar skills were lacking technically, but worked for him.
