They should have known, you can't get a comment from a smuggler sitting in a river without first reaching out to his PR agent to make an appointment and sending the list of questions ahead of time. These guys are amateurs.

I was gonna say good on him for learning until I saw the app on the phone. Are those live translators any good?

Would have a better chance of getting the 'yes' if the reporter guy with the mic had asked if he's on his way to Trump's Golf Club and Labor Exploitation Extravaganza in Bedminster.

Maybe try Portuguese. Or Creole. Your Spanish is embarrassing.

I like that they confirm it's prerecorded yet leave the live tag on.  Quality stuff.

Driving for Lyft a few years back, I picked up a Chinese guy at the airport to take him to Manhattan (IIRC, his first time in the US). His English was good enough to get around, but when I wanted to talk tourist stuff (he asked me if there was something I thought he should try), I used Google Translate.

He was able to understand what Google said I was saying, so it can't be that bad.

My wife and I went to flushing for dinner.  Nobody in the restaurant spoke English but we used the Google translate to speak with the waitress.  It seemed to work, and this is back when it was text only.

I welcome our robot translator overlords.

I know they've been working on a medical one.

My favorite story still is watching Star Trek on my iPad. Friend pipes up "won't it be great when we have those?" (referring to Dr. Crusher's data pad). I looked at him and said, "Not only do we have those, iPads do more shiat."

People seeking US residency will normally carry a few personal items for the arduous crossing.  The fact that he is not carrying anything seems suspicious.   He doesn't want to look like he's carrying contraband.

So clearly he is smuggling things in up his ass much like where the reporter is getting his story.

that was the effect of the right wing "working the refs" with their bullshiat talking points. they repeat this stupid thing over and over in their weird echo chamber of nonsense until so many people are saying it that it spills over into "real life."

Of course Kamala Harris doesn't need to be AT the border. She was correct when she said "we have been to the border" meaning of course the administration. It's a manufactured outrage. Again.

My guess is the app is feeding him the tú form.

I'd love to get some clarification on which formal you form the reporter should be using though. My understanding is that Mexican Spanish uses the usted/ustedes pair, while south of Mexican tends more towards the tú/vosotros pairing. But I've never actually heard a Central American use the vosotros form? Does the usted/ustedes pairing extend south of Mexico? Or is it mixed?

/legit question, as my customers are mixed Spanish speakers from all over

And unfortunately Harris flubbed her answer. It was a completely ridiculous question, and she knew that, but her her answer just gave sound bites to the opposition. She should have made Holt tell her exactly what standing at "the border" would accomplish and which one of the thousands of miles of it she should visit.
