Cleaned and painted my deck last month, so I beat this.  However, one 2x6 10' board cost $23. I'm glad it was the only one that had to be replaced.  It's bleeding through the paint, though.

If I'm paying over $100 per sheet of plywood, I'm treating it like the finest mahogany and sanding it to a fine surface and oiling it.

So, according to my Sherwin Williams dealer on Saturday (I bought a fixer-upper 9 months, so he and I are on first-name terms), the company plants froze and burst during the freeze in Texas over the winter. All of their solvents and dyes were destroyed. It's gonna be months before they're able to begin manufacturing again. Our store is currently out of a number of products, and corporate is working on reallocating from their various warehouses around the country.

So.....this isn't about rising materials costs. This is about Republican energy policies are damaging the economy.

Calling it a policy implies thought and planning, neither of which was involved.

someone once told me Wal-Mart paint is actually Sherwin Williams. if that is true you're saving a lot of money on high quality finish.

Highly doubtful, but Sherwin Williams owns a ton of brands, so it's possible they produce it (they own Valspar sold at Lowe's). That doesn't mean its the same quality through. Frankly I don't think Sherwin Williams is anything special.

The satin and the flat are pretty darn good. The Semi-Gloss is the Glossy and the Gloss is just a mistake from China.  Brush strokes may vary.   The real quality surface is available at 1/2 price in something called "Floetrall additive.  Doesn' thin the paint, Dosen' weaken the colour, but doubles the coverage and the finish is like Anodised-on to the surface like a factory spray.  Learned that one in the real high end of Pacific Pallisades.  Also check out "Tuscany Style" finishes for that unique, one of a kind walls.  It takes five times as longand many colours and a 6' putty knife; with a bees wax finish. Very nice for those difficult rooms, special walls, large spaces..
