Like we didn't already know this.

I suppose, for a certain conservative faction, they've been able to rationalize it all away as fake news since no one actually showed them any real data but now they can't . Nobody likes having their fantasies destroyed.

If you are millionaire or richer, if you want your taxes to be private, you have to pay the full marginal income tax rate on any income or net increases in wealth.  Otherwise your shiat gets published.

It's not just this.

Turns out Merrick would have been a pretty decent MODERATE Supreme Court Justice.

Buuuuut not the guy we need as a post-Trump AG. He's too busy defending Trump and his cronies.

Hell about the only person in DC anymore who seems to be more left than he/she used to be is Biden.

You know if the information leaked weren't so scandalous no one would care. Maybe we should pause and think about why finding out the taxes that billionaires actually pay is so scandalous in this country... Hmm...

You are mad that he is behaving as an independent AG after we spent 4 years with a Trump Cronie? he is doing his job, you may not like it, but it is still his job.

What's that thing Fark loved to post about Trump? The Orwell passage about telling people to not trust what they read or hear and it was the final and most sacred command?

Yeah. Don't emulate Trumpian stuff.

That's an interesting observation. I think Bernie is just old and knows he isn't the future, so he is enjoying his committee assignments, where he is as left as always. Elizabeth Warren is the sort of person who accepts Biden is the chosen president, so she is not in the news. She seems as progressive as ever.

What's more, I don't like the thought of anyone's income & tax info getting illegally released by IRS folks just to advance political goals. Whoever did it should go to jail.

NOO! It is the opposite. We should have utmost transparency in this one sacred area.

I'm starting to feel like Garland is at least the moderate Obama nominated to the Supreme Court rather than the Marxist McConnell and company portrayed him as.

This is one time I wish the political right weren't always dead wrong about something.

2021-06-10 12:29:21 PM
Remember how a bunch of the progressives around here were not happy with Merrick Garland being chosen to head the DOJ, and they got shouted down as usual because obviously someone who was Obama's Supreme Court pick and who got robbed from that seat would be ready to kick ass and take names rather than simply just maintaining the "moderate" status quo, as the progressives feared?

Good times.

/ also, the most recent episode of the Gaslit Nation podcast does a great job describing why Garland is not the person for this job in this time, which thus explains why he was chosen

Screw this loser and screw the assholes that helped him get where he is today.  I'm pretty sure the only reason Joe Biden is President is because the powers remaining unseen understood that Biden was much better at conning the decent people of America than Trump.  Merrick Garland, however, gives away the game.  I hate them all.

I still want Preet Bharara appointed as a special prosecutor to handle the things that this DOJ appears reluctant to do on their own. Obstruction of Justice would be a good place to start.

The letter after Garland's name is 'R'.  The DOJ is pretty much the way Trump left it except for Garland, who is doing a much better job defending Trump than Trump's own people.  Republicans still control 100% of America's Justice Apparatus.

Well yeah, the Dems should really re-brand themselves as Republican-Lite.

Also, what you describe is not new.  Roosevelt was branded a socialist and a Bolshevik, but in reality he saved capitalism from its own excess and arrogance.

These aren't whistleblowers. There's nothing illegal going on in what was released.

It's just embarrassing & politically advantageous. Hell, I agree, we need them to pay way more in taxes. That doesn't make divulging their personal tax info acceptable.

Think about if someone working at your bank took your last few years' bank statements and sent them to everyone you knew and there were some embarrassing charges in there, just to make a point about what they thought of you.

It doesn't matter what the point is. It's illegal and morally bankrupt and nobody should want it to be the way things are done.

No, there would have been many good, independent AGs. Preet Bharara, Sally Yates, Val Demings, Doug Jones.

People were all saying that Merrick Garland was super awesome for reasons & he'd do an incredible job because he'd be fueled by revenge.

I pointed out at the time that he was a moderate & that's why Obama nominated him, so he's not a good fit for this historical moment.

How do you guys twist reality so badly?

One of Trump's AGs recused himself from the Russia thing leading to his forced resignation.

The other one dragged his feet on an investigation and publicly disagreed with Trump numerous times, ultimately ending in his resignation.

You think those were cronies?

You sure about that ? More than likely no one has audited them so who knows. It wasnt until people went through trumps and compared them to other disclosures before the discrepancies came to light

Before this release, did anyone here think any of these people did anything different?

I mean, it's all entirely legal and as laid out in current tax law. Did anyone think they somehow voluntarily paid more than the requisite amount of taxes they owed?

I realize it's unpopular here to support the rights of the ultrawealthy but shiat, being well-off shouldn't and doesn't eliminate your protections under the law around your private info.

Farkers vastly overrate liberal and non-right wing political figures as firebrands dedicated to stomping Trump and his minions.

This started with Mueller four years ago,  along with that AW Avenatti and still continues for the most part. They are good people in general, but don't rely on them to turnover the table and FTSU.

The correct AG we need for this moment in history is someone who would exactly zero GOP votes for confirmation in the Senate
