Facebook and The Zuck kind of reminds me of the ultimate adversary in John D MacDonald's Deadly Shade of Gold, a rich socialite that supports all sorts of causes, but only the ones that will cause the most chaos and violence. A twisted little man who is impotent and a tireless voyeur. A collector of disturbing images, gold steeped in a history of blood, and a blackmailer.

The Zuck has all the resources to be Tomberlin for realsies, only without the drive and passion. The Zuck just seems to have an instinct on what is not appropriate, and what will damage the countries he operates in, I suppose, in a bid to keep them distracted.

Wouldn't want to offend Modi, and get banned in a country market that big, right Mark?

Yea yea, he's not directly tied to these groups, but he sure as sugar supports the same Hindutva goals.

It costs money to hire people to watch for this content.

On the other hand, if they don't hire someone they can keep making money off this content.

It's a pretty straightforward equation.

So, we're mad at FB for not understanding the intricacies of Hindu hate groups in India? Seems like a weird thing to be upset about. It looks like once it was brought to their attention they expanded the ban.

Also, Florida is acting similar to India with regards to trying to manipulate social media firms. Careful you're not too busy watching somebody else's house to see the crimes going on in your own.

It's really more a question of who gets more racist flak, Indians or Zuckerberg.

Seems to me that organized religion is the bigger problem here.

Extremist. Right.

A lot of what American government and American companies call "extremists" are the cultural equivalents of punk bands that teenagers follow. Give it time and they grow out of it, and all they did as fans was shiatpost memes and go to the equivalent of house party concerts. What is interesting is that Americans sell weapons to the extremist groups and promote using them, whereas the ame Americans wouldn't give those weapons to their own teenagers and say, "There you go, now act like the lyrics imply you should now that you have a gun." Shouldn't the real question be, what is the relationship between those recruitment Facebook pages and the networks of arms sales from the USA and Europe through Indian vendors? A lot of parts for weapons are manufactured in countries including the USA and Canada, then assembled and sold in India.

Exile On Beale Street: JFC. What's next, Buddhist Nazis? Wait, don't answer that.

There are many spectacularly awful Buddhists in Burma and Thailand with Sri Lanka not far behind. Here in the US, there were lots of 'me too' episodes involving prominent Zen and Tibetan and Tibetan-ish teachers over the last few decades.

Problem is for Zuck---scratch anybody like this hard enough, and you find a bloody-minded anti-capitalist, a Jew-hater (outside Jewish Israel), a Reform Jew-hater (in Jewish Israel), or some combination of the three.

Where was he planning to go when it all finally blew up in his face? Has he even thought about it?
