Why is there a man sitting in a box at the Fort Lauderdale airport?

It's to prepare you for the plethora of "why the fark" visitors encounter in Florida.

He's been there for farking *years*, people. I think he was there the last time I visited, circa 2010.

The actual article (https://www.miamiherald.com/news/curious305/article251953488.html ) did.  The submitter used the MSN reposting aggregating the herald article instead of the original.

I think so as well.  The first time I was there, I had checked a bad and picked up right next to it.  Every subsequent time, I always did a carry-on but was with someone who checked a bag.  I remember telling someone who had never been there to not bother the guy in headphones when we got off the plane.  They looked at me like I was crazy but started laughing uncontrollably when they saw this thing.  Another thought it was an actor or something.

I also remember it never being in the same place in baggage claim.  I think they moved it around quite often for cleaning purposes.

He likes to dress casual, in faded jeans and a redish-pink shirt, and is always listening to a Walkman, a portable cassette player.

Yes, Walkmans are now such a relic of the past that articles feel the need to explain what they were.

You sound like you really hate sites that don't have their own content and survive by compiling other sites' work.

Mine shows one at the top, one in the middle, and "promoted content" at the bottom.  If that's a monster, then nonsense like the Daily Mail and the Sun that gets submitted are world-ending Godzilla vs Mothra battles.

I know why he's in the box....because people are stupid and would break the exhibit of left open to the public.

56 year old "children" would climb on him like a jungle gym and ruin it.

Worked at a building that had an expensive piece of art work/water fall.

Had a sign about the artist and year made, that kind of stuff.

Once a week I had to ask people to not try and land coins on the levels as it was art and not a farking goldfish game at the carnival.

Don't ask me, ask Fark.  It rejects Miami Herald links. Try one.  It's a Florida paper and sure to have something Floridaish to submit at any given time.

Welcome to the third millennium, grandpa. Walkman hasn't been a thing for 30 years.
My issue is more that their explanation is "a portable cassette player" as though anyone under 40 knows what a f*ing cassette is.

My first guess was that they were refusing to ship him as baggage. I was just reading yesterday of a man sent as luggage, but he was accompnanied by a postal work, so technically he was mail. Observe how neatly I used both American and British English in those sentences.
