Look, I get that I might be taking the show's sci-fi rules a bit too seriously.

20 paragraphs in when the self-realization hits

It's a stupid show about stupid stuff with stupid jokes that are stupidly meta and I stupidly love watching it.  It's in the same vein as Archer, FutureMan, or any of the other shows that are edgy (for their time) and make fun of everything.  But the magic sauce can't last forever.  We'll see how long it does for R&M

/Still looking forward to season 5.

There are a couple of story arcs that could really tie the series together, and I hope they are realized. The last season disappointed.

Wait until the big reveal the entire series is all in Rick's mind as he wastes away in the cheap nursing home Jerry put him in.

Too late, Morty's already smarter, braver, and generally more competent than Jerry.  Rick's holding him back.  A couple of years of no constant threat of horrible impending death around him, he might even turn out average.

Hell, even regular Morty can be pretty damn scary when he's got a mind to.

I can't help but feel current Morty will somehow turn into "Evil" Morty at some point.  The episode where Rick and Morty get their "toxins" remove hint at it...though in that ep, Morty isn't so much "evil" as he is "uninhibited" and lacks conscience.

My favorite continuity call-back was when Morty chastised Summer for being weak by pointing out the dead Rick and Morty buried in the backyard.

The follow on post apocalyptic family that Rick and Morty left behind were awesome too.

If it is, it had better be Cronenberg Jessica.

The last season was my favorite so far. The vat of acid episode?  /chef's kiss   Pure perfection.

I don't need the series to be "tied together". It's largely a free-form anthology with a little bit of continuity just mixed in for spice. I just want good episodes.

Maybe the show didn't lose it but maybe the farking psychos who happen to also like the show and act weird as shiat in public are starting to die down aka the "you have to be really smart...." *unironically* type people.

I tried to get into this show but it just came off way too mean spirited. I love meta humor but overall we need to stop using it as narrative crutch. I know it's not as bad as Family Guy but I can't get behind a character that's a pretentious asshole but is also somehow the smartest character in the room...I've seen House and even Hugh Laurie wasn't enough to keep that premise afloat for as long as it was.

Also, I'm generally curious the Venn diagram of R&M fans compared to Elon/Rogan fans.

Existential angst powered by a mind that dwarf's Einstein's.  Rick is like the original Terminator - he's not a hero, he's an almost unstoppable force of destruction that you enjoy because sometimes it's perfect revenge fantasy fuel.  He can do anything, answers to nobody, and kills anyone (or thing) that gets in his way.

There's some good escapism in there.

1. The Great North isn't great. It's good. But not great.

2. Solar Opposites is no where near as good as R&M. The only reason to even mention SO in an article on R&M is to point out that it's no where near as good as R&M.

3. Just because you watch a show with a smart character (Rick) does not make you smart. Oh, it's hard (or easy) for Rick to move to a new universe and replace the family and this affects the tension of any situation? How do you know that?

How does an adult writing about an animated tv show know about interdimensional travel?

Oh, you don't. You only know what Rick has said, but you haven't picked up that Rick lies.

Author of TFA was likely one of the douchebros raiding McDonald's for that stupid sauce.

We know a little bit more thanks to Gravity Falls. But that's easter egg level lore

That is normal. Edgy cartoons have been seen before, and isn't new. The Simpsons had a good decade, and South Park seemed evergreen for almost 20, if not as popular as the Simpsons.

Season 3 or 4 is normally "peak show". Unless you are lightning in a bottle or are trailblazing a subgenre. I would also sight Game of Thrones and L.O.S.T., but when you fark around so hard you murder the landing, people will intentionally forget they spent 7 years looking forward to talking to other people about your show.

Rick specifically genocided an entire planet just to keep Morty from selling his heist movie and becoming independent. While "Rick destroys or enslaves an entire civilization" is a Tuesday, and while he's done horrible things to Morty, I feel like that's the worst specific thing, even counting Morty's Mindblowers.

I always assumed this was a meta joke that the writers couldn't pull that every time something bad happens, not that he personally couldn't.

The show's about a bunch of asshole aliens, but everyone wants to watch the tiny people in the wall instead because the stories are far more compelling.  Because the premise of the show is pretty boring, as are the main characters.  But that little B-plot that grew?  It's like the writers focused all the real effort there.

All of this.

I love the fact that it's basically Back to the Future + Doctor Who + Repo Man + House MD + Classic Serials + soaking in a vat of LSD, PCP, and Shrooms for the past 17 years + a healthy dose of being absolutely enraged at the world.

It's almost perfect.

Rick and Morty sucks.

Much the same way that Family Guy became a big pile of suck after the first few seasons, or the Simpsons after season 10, or South Park when they introduced PC Principal and his stupid PC family.

Every cartoon has a shelf-life. Some of them just don't seem to know it yet.

The Wall is basically the "beard" of the show.

Not that the main cast plotline hasn't improved, but they're still stuck in the arrogant and unlikeable aliens getting a piece of humble pie trope.
