You had a problem so you called the cops, and now you have 2 problems.

It's somewhat frustrating, the incredibly slow pace at which people come to realize this.

Hey, nobody even got shot or beaten into a coma. Big improvement there.

"Caserta said that the BID is going to try communicating directly with the delivery riders themselves in an effort to avoid involving the NYPD in the issue."

Also maybe you should have done that first before involving the farking cops.

I just want to thank this guy for not saying "rate of speed" like a tool would.

So, the right people were called for the right job? And the caller was surprised it worked out well?

"We've asked the police not to not to come back next week, because it just wasn't effective, and was causing problems," Park Slope Fifth Avenue Business Improvement District Executive Director Mark Caserta told Streetsblog on Monday

Don't stand, don't stand so, don't stand so close to me?

Sometimes people don't think. Do you like to have food delivered quickly, for a reasonable price? Maybe you shouldn't go after the guys who deliver it on bikes. Those guys have to contend with 2 ton deathmobiles driven by people who are giving 99% of their concentration to their phones.

If they are speeding, the cops ARE the right people to call.  Or we could put speed bumps in the road.

Seriously, what did they expect the police to do?

Speeding? What were they doing 7 over in a 25mph zone? On a bike? Helmets? You don't want to wear one on that soft vulnerable melon on your shoulders, fine by me, you belong dead.

Call it what it is, a Karen incident.

I wanted to write a thoughtful reply to this, but I'm driving and can only give it 99% of my attention.

I'll join you in that. It's as obnoxious as "at that point in time," as if they're clarifying they don't mean at that point in space.

Maybe people are tired of getting killed by murder cyclists.

In this area (DC, NoVA), the murder cyclists are the entitled wastes of flesh on the trails.  How to smack those arrogant, privileged wankers down without penalizing the folks just trying to make a living is a bit of a conundrum.

Dead for Tax Reasons: malicious compliance.  they don't like being asked to do work and will make sure you never ask them again

Given the way the folks who live in that neighborhood will go three sides around the barn to avoid taxes, issuing tickets is economic necessity.

The magic of the free market says that the ridiculously wealthy of Park Slope should pay out of pocket to have nice, gentle people stand on the street politely saying "Wouldn't it be nice if you slowed down a little?"  Then the bike delivery people could ignore the paid help, too.

That is not the correct nomenclature. Park Asian American, please

A little bit of fishing line run between two light poles, going across the street would have solved the problem

You're probably right. But we can never discount the factor of trying to impress a cute waitress with the manliness of a group of cops armed with mace, tasers, guns....confronting immigrants armed with electric bikes and small bags of food.

Can I do that if I get caught in a speed trap?

Probably not. I need another digit in my income.

These delivery drivers don't just ride e-bikes on the sidewalk, they ride their motor scooters on the sidewalk if they're not running red lights on the road. They drive extremely erratically and dangerously and will either hurt someone or be hurt by someone. I personally have had to block these drivers several times from colliding into strollers and elderly people next to me.

You can't stand on the sidewalk nowadays without being afraid of getting clipped by one of these people. Just the other day I read about a woman pedestrian who was hit with the mirror of a passing vehicle and died. It's a shameful situation.

The War on Cars people are out of their minds. I had a guy on his bike, wearing one of their shirts, pull up to me while I was getting into my car in Manhattan. The bike lane was set up between the curb and the parking lane, almost like an extension of the sidewalk. He stopped and started to record me and blow a whistle, like a referee's whistle, while yelling that I was obstructing a bike lane by opening my car doors to throw my jacket in the back seat and to get into the drivers seat.

What set me off was that he kept going and tapping on my window after I had already closed my door. I took out my phone, and proceeded to record him, tapping on my window and blowing his whistle. He started yelling how it's illegal to record him without his consent. I replied with, "you're blocking the bike lane and I'm going to perform a citizens arrest."

He called me an asshole and scooted off.

I don't know what it's like in NYC, but when I was in college every person I knew who worked making deliveries on foot or on a bicycle was between the ages of 16 and 21. They were all male. I knew some of them. Males between the ages of 16 and 21 is a subgroup that lashes out without taking possible consequences into account. If a particular neighborhood or business district had sicced LEO on delivery people in this area, at that time, I believe they would have spit in every lunch order, stomped every package marked fragile, and soaked documents in sewage laden rain puddles when delivering in that particular neighborhood or business district.

So, I'm marveling at the stupidity and shocked that there wasn't pointed blowback.

you can't even ride a regular bike on a sidewalk in NYC if you're over the age of 13

nobody cares about the law*

it's like mad max on two wheels

many years ago, I saw a cyclist wearing a helmet and stopping at red lights and obeying all traffic regulations that applied to her.  as it has only happened once in 16 years here, I still remember it vividly

They also use full ebikes which are banned. The most you can have is pedal assist.

I once chained a delivery cyclist to a tree in front of my building. It was very satisfying.

It's even worse than that.   In NYC motorists kill and maim people DELIBERATELY and the cops can't be arsed to arrest the motorists, so long as the victims are not rich and/or cops.  Check the link to the video.  Cops have clear video of the driver's face, car and plate.   No arrests made.   Victim is a nobody.  No one gives a shiat.

It's all walks of life, but predominantly black and brown men, maybe 18-50. A few pizza places have your typical high school/ college kid with a car, but the majority of bicycle delivery guys appear to be immigrants.

Uber eats is a little more gender diverse, but very rarely do you get a white delivery person.

At least that's been my experience in Queens and Nassau.

Point is:  How hard can it be to find this guy?   They got his face on video. They got a clear shot of the car and the plate.   The cops can't be arsed because there is common attitude among the police that goes:  "Animals killing animals.  Who cares?"   Yup. That's how a most cops think when both the victim and attacker are poor, or minorities.

If they run through stop signs they are cyclists and should be deported to the Netherlands.

For those that don't know, Park Slope is a really nice neighborhood. Brownsville is all but a war zone.

People like to pigeonhole Brooklyn as a haven for young hipsters. Brooklyn's a big area. Some neighborhoods like Park Slope and Caroll Gardens have always been full of rich douches along with mobsters who dumped bodies in the Gowanus.

Father broke Sister and I of "you know" by always saying "No, I don't, I thought you knew that which is why you're telling me." Used similar techniques with other inane phrases. It was so annoying to us that it was either speak better or not speak to him at all. I expect he'd have settled for either result.

Average car ride there is slower than walking.

Tickets create a record of activities and a court date and messy stuff.
They wanted the cops to just quietly disappear some people.
