Yes, they should be allowed to outstrip their resources just like people.

I don't want to meet the characters who would enjoy shooting an otter. Fark those guys.

i wanted to save the river otter before i took up a career in day drinking.  glad to see the work got done despite my absence.  plus it's a good sign- a river has to be pretty healthy, to support mammals.  yay for the otters, and their human staff!

For what it's worth, they're probably trapping them.

/Still, a species I'm not cool with killing.

Being cute and adorable has nothing to do with the importance of an animal to the food chain or ecosystem. Which is something those "save the pandas" morons need to be reminded of. Pandas are useless and should be allowed to die off. River otters are actually important to an ecosystem, but too many top predators are a bad thing to have, and thus they need to be culled, either by hunting or relocating

Sadly, illegal to have as pets. Really feel letting them be pets would have done wonders for their survival. Far superior to actual dogs

Otters and tigers. The two most charismatic animals in the world.

How do you keep an otter as a pet? You gonna have a lake in your house?

You wouldn't want a North American river otter as a pet at all.  They bite, they can be vicious, they smell, and they mark their territory.

People keep Asian small clawed otters as pets in Japan.  While those are more manageable, they still bite, smell, and mark their territory.

They're extremely cute though.  That's Aty, probably the only otter I've seen on YouTube whose owner actually properly takes care of it.   Aty goes on many walks, swims, and camping trips.

Other owners just let the animals live in small cramped spaces and a small tub to swim in.  I don't think they should be pets.

You can basically say this about all mustelids.
