AOC:

During the Obama admin, folks thought we'd have a 60 Dem majority for a while.

It lasted 4 months. Dems are burning precious time & impact negotiating w/GOP who won't even vote for a Jan 6 commission.

McConnell's plan is to run out the clock.

It's a hustle. We need to move now.

NEW: Democratic frustrations flare over flailing infrastructure negotiations

Progressive and moderate Dems are losing their patience and warning Biden not to compromise too much on their priorities, like climate/taxes.

The US Park Police did not clear protesters to allow for then-President Trump's march to St. John's Church last June, but instead did so to allow a contractor to install a fence safely around the White House, a new report states.

Go over to the Pol tab and say that.

You'll get called a Bernie Bro and a divider because VOTE BLUE NO MATTER WHO etc.

Ball-Chin and SinemaSins are prime examples of why I f*cking loathe the Democratic Party as it currently exists, along with everyone who takes anything remotely like their side on the filibuster/taking action.

Looks like Sen. Scott of Florida got a bill passed to create a National Memorial for the Pulse nightclub shooting. Read it in the c-span transcription so it was a little garbled. Will have a better view of it in the day's digest published tomorrow.

It's such a weight off to have the second vaccine. When I woke up this morning, I was feeling just as depressed and decrepit as in previous days. But I knew it wasn't going to get any better unless I completed what I failed to do in May, which was to get the second dose. So then... let's just say I had a Tim's Little Helper, and then I could calm down enough to look for vaccine appointments. And when I found one for today, 1 mile away, at a place I was familiar with so I already knew how to get there, I was not going to let it get away. And I didn't let it get away. Even though it was only 2.5 hours in the future, which is normally far inside the time frame that I'd allow my future to change.

I got there 20 minutes ahead of time because I had to be sure. When the nurse took me back into the vaccination area, she told me I looked hot, and while that was a nice sentiment, I knew what she really meant was she had to take my temperature. And I explained I had just walked a mile here from X-town. The shot was nothing, even less than last time, no blood. Then I waited in the chill-out area for a bit, and then walked back home. I still have a lot of real-life problems that I'm dealing with, and I know my strategy of ignore-them-till-you-cant-anymore is not the healthiest, but at least having this one gone is helping!

I've got 99 problems but COVID ain't one.

If magical sea-horses are cool, then why not a mystical Queen of the Merciful Ocean and her husband, a centuries-old human wizard (who in my headcannon also writes prog-metal under the pseudonym Ayreon, because seriously they bear more than a passing resemblance to each other)?

I kinda put it in the category of movies that aren't going to change your life, but are fun to watch. Kinda like Naked Gun.

So Keystone XL is dead. Probably for the best. The Love Canal of oil transportation... it could never be done effectively, or correctly. Margin of error was too high.

San Onofre's decaying concrete domes are being disassembled. (And I'm sorry to say, but Good Chris's segment on this a few nights ago was kinda stupid, no useful details.) End of an era, but the waste has to be shipped somewhere. By train. A train to miss.

Rancho Seco shut down decades ago. It rusts. It is not missed.

Meanwhile Altamont Pass is still spinning. That's the future.

I know that gizmodo (from the main-page link) is shiat-tier "journalism", but really: "The company also hinted it would continue trying to make climate-friendly oil a thing, which bless their hearts." Uh, ok. So oil can never be climate-friendly, in any possible way shape or form? No matter what technological advances? This is a claim you want to make? Oh dear no, it's not a claim you want to make, or back up, you just want to look cool, sorry, forgot that. What's that word the British have for these kind of people...

Tread lightly.

Today, I:

Finished the Walter Isaacson biography The Code Breaker, and then read Loretta Lynn's Patsy & Me, Kickin Up Dust in its entirety.

Saw a momma deer and a tiny, wobbly, spotty baby in the back yard.

Made a delicious lunch for myself, using the shaved beef and provolone cheese I picked up at Aldi yesterday to create a Keto version of a cheesesteak. Had to use hamburger buns instead of the delicious long roll I really wanted, but I got over it and ate two of those little tasty bastids.

Took a bunch of photos of the things that are flowering and fruiting around the yard so I could send them to Faraday.

Did a bunch of dishes, and a significant amount of straightening up in the kitchen and sunroom.

/I still have a pile of stuff to do, but today was productive.
//Getting through books that I've borrowed totally counts as a task.
///Might make a pound cake tonight.
