""The sale of the Iranian weapons happened one year ago under the previous [U.S.] administration and like many situations related to Iran under the previous administration - including the breakout of Iran's nuclear program following the Trump administration's reckless withdrawal from the [Iran nuclear deal] - we are working to resolve it through diplomacy," the official said. "But to be clear, Iran sold weapons to Venezuela over a year ago, which we believe was to test the Trump administration's maximum pressure posture." "

So cleaning up another Trump-made mess.

FTA:

The mere completion of a journey across the Atlantic would be a significant step for Iran's navy, demonstrating the ships' capabilities and potentially increasing Tehran's access to the Western Hemisphere.

I'm not sure how duplicating a feat done by Christopher Columbus in the 1490's with wooden boats and hopes for plunder is that big of a nautical achievement in the modern day.

I suppose if this works, the Iranians could next try crossing the Pacific in a balsa wood raft like Thor Heyerdahl.  That'll show the imperialists!

The only other area besides corporate bailouts where there is plenty of govt bipartisanship: trying to tell the rest of the world how to behave

US: Sells billions in weapons to Saudi to bomb people in Yemen.
US: Tells other countries they can't sell weapons.

Did anyone in america stop and check to see if Venezuela has the right to bear arms in their constitution??

"The biggest arms dealer in the world is your boss, the President of the United States, who ships more merchandise in a day than I do in a year. Sometimes it's embarrassing to have his fingerprints on the guns. Sometimes he needs a freelancer like me to supply forces he can't be seen supplying. You call me evil, but unfortunately for you, I'm a...necessary one."

Just overthrow Maduro already. The guy has been wrecking Venezuela for long enough. Hes turned the richest country in oil on the planet into a shiathole as poor as north korea with people literally starving so much they are eating cats, dogs, birds and slaughtering cows on the side of the road to eat them like they are zombies feeding on brains.

Maduro should farking die and if Putin wants to die trying to protect that dictatorship, he can die too.

/worked with several venezuelian refugees and every time they told me about their lives there it was heartbreaking

It's the Americans' fault. They really, really need to stop trying to throw their weight around as if they run the world They chose to give up world domination, and they only look weak by trying to take it back while Nzais have talled all of Biden's angenda in their senate. Cuba is socialist - They understand that giving control to a fascist state is catastrophic.

Get rid of McConnell and Manchin, and the USA might get their legitimacy back.

Fun fact, socialism and fascism is the same thing. Its a totalitarian government that steals everything for itself while everyone starves.

there were reports that Venezuela was considering purchasing missiles from Iran, including long-range ones

Assuming these reports are accurate, and not sourced from 4chan or some shiat...

WTF? Can Venezuela even afford to import food right now, never mind weapons of any kind?

Fascists and Socialists states like Cuba and Venezuela are the same damned thing, with different methods -- they're both authoritarian states with heavy government control of the Not-So-Free-Market.

You need to either read more, or grow up.

FTFA: "Elliott Abrams, the Trump administration's special envoy for Iran and Venezuela, dismissed the senior Biden administration official's comment as "petty, political, and far more interested in blaming predecessors than in protecting U.S .national security."

My irony meter just exploded.

Maybe after the insurrection, the whole "Boogaloo" joke is kinda not so funny anymore?

Just throwing that out there

Modern ships are making the same trek in 1/8-1/4 the time, carrying hundreds to hundreds of thousands times more cargo, staffed with 1/4-1/2 the crew, and expected to weather sea conditions that would have sank an entire navy back in the 15th century.

When you need to have a mechanic who knows his way around motors with cam shafts longer AND heavier than your average strip mall? It would actually be relatively impressive for Iran to get cargo-laden ships all the way to Venezuela. The rest of the world has schools dedicated to teaching people how to run such ships.
