Maybe just focus on the series?  Instead of only doing 10 episodes every 18-24 months*?

This is probably why I'm not in showbiz (nor why I'm not a captain of industry) coz I just don't have the Maximize All The Profits mindset.

/*I checked...it's actually 13 to 25 months between seasons

Rick And Morty movie "will happen" says producer...while the writers actually have no idea about any story line they can drag out for that run time that'll still hold up as the tight punchy start to end kinda show that makes it good. but hey the money train must roll on while the hype is high enough.

I'm still hoping that there will be a movie and it will end up being the one in space that Troy and Abed pitched and it turns out the whole thing is in the Dreamatorium.

The show started almost 8 years ago. Just sayin' the "hype" is almost a decade old. Perhaps it's just a decent show that a lot of people like. Seems to me  the peak of the hype ended years ago now.

I have the same opinion about this show that many of my exes had about me: I tried so hard to like it because it's so clever, but it makes me almost physically ill to look at it.

At four seasons done so far, would you have wanted a Community movie at that point?

/I would, but I have no taste.

For 2 hours.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existential catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂

And yes, by the way, i DO have a Rick & Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

What we need here is a grimdark live action version.  Age up the kids enough for the sex scenes, kill off a beloved secondary character.

And the movie should start with Rick on his secret universe toilet, disturbed as the space is invaded.

They were actually kidnapped by pirates. Could be a decent story line.

There's probably enough left in the "Evil Morty" storyline to compile and stretch to a 90 minute feature as a wrap-up.

In case you missed it, S05E06:

It says: "Breaking News: Levar Burton and non-celebrity companion captured by pirates in the Gulf of Mexico"

Also, by going back and re-watching the end of the episode, I caught this Easter egg:

It's on for just a split second as the camera does a dolly pan to Abed and Captain Marvel on a date.

Even after watching many times, I still find new things.

More likely:

Dan Harmon on a phone call to Adult Swim HQ:
"HEY, YOU GAVE THE VENTURES BROS. AND AQUA TEEN GUYS A F_____ING MOVIE, AND EVEN THOSE EXILED F___KS FROM METALOCALYPSE. I'M THE SUPERSTAR KEEPING THE shiatBERG AFLOAT, WHERE'S MY CUT?"

Adult Swim: "OK. Write a script for it and we'll announce for some preseason R&M buzz."

Dan Harmon
(thinking: Oh, f--k, they called me on it, now I gotta work") Give me ... uh ... ah ... time. Just (burp) roll with that for now."

Adult Swim: "Sure." (Hangs up) "Anyone in the office want to bet we got a GRR Martin dawdler here? I mean, it took the Aqua Teen guys over a decade and cancellation for them to get their shiat together for a second movie. Get the team in here for hypotheticals, just in case."

People like what people like.

I like Rick and Morty.  I cannot stand Archer; but tons of people swear by it.  I just couldn't get past the pilot episode, and I tried.  Twice.

Both shows have earned Emmys, so neither show sucks.

You put too much work into this sarcasm. Unfortunately the most public of the fandom really believe they're better in this way and make Rick and Morty the best example of having to hide something you like because you'll otherwise be associated with crap like this.

I like both. Although R&M can get really dark. Like holy shiat, I need to look at my life dark.

Give Archer something past the first couple of episodes. It took a bit for me, but it's the back and forth banter that the cast has that's spot on.

Snapper Carr: Destructor: Best adult animated show currently on TV.

1. Rick & Morty. With the fall of Team Venture, this is the new title holder.
2. Final Space. Feels like a weird meld of anime, Futurama and a shiatload of melancholy. But it works damn well.
3. South Park. Still batting RBIs deep into left field.
4. Archer. Final season imminent and it's been in decline since the elevator episode, but still holds interest.
5. Birdgirl. Surprised, but animation is in a rut at the moment.
Honorable mention: Disenchantment. Can sometimes get close to its predecessor Futurama, then loses it.

/watched clips of Dr. Orpheus and the Triad from The Venture Bros., damn that would be an awesome spinoff

Practical_Draconian: /watched clips of Dr. Orpheus and the Triad from The Venture Bros., damn that would be an awesome spinoff

There are about 10 or 12 elements of Venture Bros that could be spun off into their own things.  For a cartoon that started as a cheap Flash animated Jonny Quest parody, there's a ton of depth and world building.

look at that, even in their defense you had to know they would need to stretch it out to make it fill 90 min, and their real power of awesome is, no wasted screen time, no dragging it out, no padding out to stretch the run time for a story, keeping it tight and every second of screen time meaningful from start to end.

That's what i'm say'n makes it what it is more than anything else about it, it is a master class in tight story telling that don't pointless pad out, but runs break neck from one set up and pay out to the next without slowing down.

That certain something a thing has that makes it what it is apart from the rest of the crowd, can be rally hard to spot, until it's missing. In this case i feel confidante i am spotting what that something is, that is unlikely to be present for a significantly longer run time story.

the magic of it, is i that it is tight, and that is a rare find in the entertainment world these days where longer run time length seems to be the goal.
