2.4? Subby's mom shakes things more than that when she falls down the stairs.

(Once she finishes her eighth Colt 45, she gets unsteady...get the fark out of the way, Billy D!)

And so it begins.

2.4, can you even feel that?  I don't remember ever noticing anything below a 3.5 when I lived somewhere earthquake-prone.

A 2.4?  That has the force of a wet fart.  I don't even get out of bed for anything less than a 6.0.

Remember, it's a logarithmic scale, so, a 6.0 is something like three or four thousand times more powerful than a 2.4.

Bah...it was closer to Atlantic City.

no loss there.

Yeah, that's the sort of quake that you likely wouldn't even notice if you were right above the epicenter. I track earthquake data, and the USGS site I use has a setting to only map those of 2.5 or greater, and they use that number because below that it is very unlikely anyone will notice the quake unless they have equipment that can detect it. I had no idea this earthquake happened until I saw it here.

Because the looks on New Jersian faces, when they don't get the joke, is much more entertaining.

Listen, there's a lot to pick on with New Jersey, and people tend to focus on the low hanging fruit when bashing other places, but at least New Jersey has never set any of their rivers on fire, and can claim to have twice beaten the Patriots in the Super Bowl, even if the team that did it is so ashamed of their NJ roots that they call themselves the New York Giants.

Becaus Clevelanders are smart enough to learn how to pump their own gas or make a left turn safely.

So, Fark ignores about 500 quakes in the Salton Sea area of CA a few days ago, this however isn't news.

A day without an earthquake in California would be news.

Cleveland only imports one spice - salt. And they use it on the roads in the winter.

A bit of a blue collared shore town, but not quite piney or "I wish i could go back to the city job i got through my cousin tony, but unfortunately fell off a ladder my second day on the job and have been on disability for 30 years....and i hate those people from north jersey who come down during the summer" shore town.

That said a decent house there will run you 300k or so, tack on another few hundred if you are bay.

I was thinking this was the Ramapo Fault, up north.  I lived not far from there as a kid and every coupla years we'd get a Richter 3-4 quake.  Like, "rattle the china" type stuff.

But bring up the day of death with a balloon or 2 or 2 million. Cleveland is a class of its own.

Downtown Cleveland is not for sissies.  Getting killed by a balloon sounds funny now but those damn things are killers dressed in Helium.

dbirchall: 2.4, can you even feel that?  I don't remember ever noticing anything below a 3.5 when I lived somewhere earthquake-prone.

Grew up in Santa Barbara, so upper s. California. I remember multiple times, going to school and kids talking about minor earthquakes that morning (before my parents woke me) that were 2-4's. Never woke me up, I've felt aftershocks bigger and it's still just gentle ride.

Woke up during the Northridge Quake. Now that was scary. Also no school day called. We rode out 5.0+ aftershocks in the classroom and it barely disrupted.

Quick rant: easterners call us pansy's because many of us suck at driving in snow and rain, but think yearly hurricanes/tornados that destroy  neighborhoods. But same types are terrified of earthquakes and think we're dumb to live in zones that may do some minor damage to our quake-safe homes every once or twice a real quake hits a decade.

Meanwhile, every season you're evacuating, boarding up, rebuilding, etc. I'll take my occasional quake and slow moving forest fire over all that other weather.

/OK, it was always  bitter sticking point that I never got snow days, rain days, etc.
//nor heat days in AZ unless it's over 115f and I've only seen that in Phoenix
///we're not the dumb ones, living in utterly predictable weather patterns.

We don't insult westerners for not being able to drive in snow, we insult southerners for that

Cause the only people that constantly talk shiat to people outside their region more are New Yorkers. At least they have NYC. Jersey pride is like that kid who passed High School in summer school after graduation and talks down to cousin who finished college in 6 years instead of 4.

IE: related to awesome people, inflated sense of worth from that, and willfully ignorant to think that land is some of the best on the globe.
