So when negotiatinng salary at a new job, throw out a ridicuously high number as a joke when they ask you how much you want to anchor the range near the high end.

I wouldn't have thought addresses would do that, because the numbers are smaller near the center point of a city (in my experience). But brains are weird.

One more trap to try and unlearn. I don't know if I can manage all of them, so it might take a few lifetimes to get it right.

If I didn't do what Troy said I would be making what I make today.  That one time they don't laugh you out of the office is going to make you realize your efforts have been underpaid for awhile.

I think this is why so many people have the perception that a billion dollars isn't as expensive as 700 million.  Politicians and executives seem to get that wrong frequently.
