Well we're likely not far from the next stress point. I wonder how Texans will react to another failure.

They wrote words on paper, so the pipelines have been winterized, redundancy has been increased, and they've finally joined the regional grids? Or was it just words on paper?

By voting MORE REPUBLICAN!

You just gotta vote more republican until there is so much republican it is coming out of your very pores (like the sweat when it is 118 degrees and the power grid fails)

If they were really concerned about paying those higher rates, they would have built their own electric grids and supplied power to themselves. They chose not to do that, so it's a little disingenuous for them to complain now, isn't it?

Not technically, but to a republican, renewables are a technology democrats are forcing on them.  So blaming renewables for the power outage is a backhanded attack on democrats.  If this wasn't a partisan issue, there would have been no reason for Abbott to lie out his arse about the actual cause, which he knew prior to publicly blaming renewables.

Freedom isn't free. If you want to be free from burdensome government regulation, then you have to accept freezing to death and astronomical gouging as the price.

How long until Texas utilities figure out that they can increase profits during weather "incidents."

When the coming summer heatwaves cause blackouts and death, I wonder if he'll blame Democrats with EVs for charging their batteries and overloading the grid.

Oh who am I kidding- of Course he will!

Caveat Emptor, biatches! And it ain't just electricity I'm talkin' 'bout.

If you are capable of believing that Republican politicians really want a 'free' market and 'level playing field,' then "I have a wonderful bargain for you. No checks, please. Cash and in small bills."

The same why they react to every FREEDUMB! failure...blame immigrants, minorities, homosexuals, etc, etc.

He and Patrick are detestable scumbags. The AG is an indicted, detestable scumbag. It's really amazing the shiat these three are doing and Texans are too f'n brainwashed to demand better. As long as their politicians spouts right wing talking points they look the other way as they get screwed over by the rich time and time again.

This would explain why I have already heard complaints about EVs ramping up lately.

Apparently, Republicans think electric vehicles pollute more and will cause the power grid to fail.

He sued the property owner of the tree that didn't finish the job, then helped draft legislation that nobody else in Texas would be able to do the same

Go to energysage.com. Have a year of bills ready. They get offers for you. My neighbor and I went with the same company after doing separate research. You still get a 22% tax credit this year.

"They" is a strong word, considering how much work Republicans are doing to prevent Democrats from voting.

They didn't fix shiat.  It did nothing to deal with the issues in natural gas failures, it didn't deal with the issues with grid interconnection, it didn't address abusive pricing during a crisis, and there's no teeth in the winterization requirement.  It's cheaper and easier to pay the fines.

We'll see exactly the same issues unfold if this happens again.

For everyone still going on about how folk in TexAss 'should just move/vote/live with the consequences': there are a LOT of people you're condemning to hardship or death: immigrants, the disabled, the poor.

They don't need to be a faceless amorphous mass of possible people. Try a few on for size and keep on 'they should just'.

Think so?  I see you're not familiar with the story of Steve Lonegan, neo-Nazi...er, arch-conservative politician from New Jersey.    Ol' Steve went blind at an early age.   Steve's dad died while Steve was young.   His mother raised her children, including Steve, on Social Security and other welfare benefits that were provided to families where a parent was dead and surviving family members suffered from severe disability, like blindness.   Steve was given a free ride in college because he was legally blind.   You'd think that Steve was grateful for social safety net that kept him from dying in the gutter like a diseased rat?  Nope.  Steve swears that he boot-strapped himself to great success without any help from anyone and all public assistance to 'those people' needs to be stopped now.

The vast majority of Texans either vote Republican or can't be bothered to vote. You get what you deserve.
White suburban Texans if you don't like this, join your local Democratic county club and KNOCK doors.  Stop expecting the cities and minorities to carry your deadweight with pre-election GOTV.
If it can be done in August and September in Florida and Georgia it can be done there.

This is the way.  Humans, especially these damaged ones, just need time to figure out how to blossom snd explore their boundaries.  People on Fark complain because they expect people to serve the greater good.   Greg is the product of what was intended; a few people benefiting from his actions.

I'm not here calling out specific individuals for the simple reason that it's an attitude I grapple with myself.
