what is there to worry about?  70%+ of the US population is vaccinated!

I really hate how people, media, and the CDC are representing that vax number.

More contagious, more lethal, for those not vaccinated?  Err, uhm, like, no DERRRRR

But with these new strains, there goes the neighborhood. Guvie Newsom will probably rescind the whole fully open on June 15 thing.

It is the massaging of the "percent of people eligible to receive the vaccine" vs. total population.

The "vaccine hesitant" are hearing these inflated numbers and thinking "well, looks like enough other people are vaxxed, so I don't have to now"

If you go to the CDC covid tracker, the big number at the top shows 63.8% of people with at least one vaccination.

So are we almost to the 70% goal?

/I know we aren't, it is the mouth breathers we need to convince.

I'm ashamed to admit this, but it's getting to the point where I don't care if the non vaccinated get sick and possibly even die.

They should just give the emergency ok for kids under 12 to get vaccinated. The trials have been going on for months already and its all fine.

Approve vaccine for under 12 before the delta variant hit us all in the face in a month.

We are just hoping to have some vaccine approved near the start of the school year, mid-August.  We.ve looked for pilot studies to no luck.

63 percent of adult Americans have received at least one shot, and 52 percent of adult Americans are fully vaccinated. 12 states have 70 percent of adults with at least one shot.  This is according to WH press briefing a few days ago.

So we're still a ways away from the goal just within the adult population.  I don't have time right now to see if adding the 12+ cohort increases or decreases that percentage, but we know the under 12s are not vaccinated.

The other issue is that the percentages vary greatly with geography.  So you have areas (where it's still just like the flu) with very low rates, which can lead to pockets of infection, which can lead to mutation, which can lead to new variants that the existing vaccines aren't as protective against, or that have a greater impact on children, or both.  Exactly what we see with the delta variant.
