They added video! It doesn't show him with the sheep, but it's still good stuff.

Thank you!

I thought Tilly was a girl, but he's not.

Myk-House of El: Shepherds gonna herd sheep.

People who primarily live indoors with their pooches  forget that many of them are working dogs! My Akita, who was the last dog you'd ever want to meet without its human, ran up to small children and formed a semi-circle around their bodies. That was his genetic job. He was a babysitter. Couldn't help himself. God help you if you even tried to mess with a child in the park. Good luck with EMT and plastic surgery.

A couple parents were initially unnerved but once they got to know the pooch they loved it. They were just scared bc he was massive and had a bear head. And teeth.

I knew somebody with two Huskies in Tahoe.  In the winter, she'd strap harnesses on them and go skijoring (cross-country skiing with a dog assist, like going dogsledding without the sled).  Never seen a happier dog.

The dog probably thought it had died and gone to heaven finding sheep to herd.

Although Tilly's owners are thrilled to be reunited, the pooch is probably wondering what karmic debt it owed to be dragged back to the boring sheepless hell its previous and current life is.

I have been dogsledding and the howls and barks you hear from the moment those guys see the harnesses come out are incredible. They keep it up while hooking everything up but the second you release the sled and let them run it is instant silence except the whoosh of the runners on snow and the breathing of the dogs. Those dogs are born to pull and that is when they are happiest.

Actually, any dog is happiest when it is doing its job. Whether herding, pulling, babysitting, assisting a disabled human, or hanging out on the couch with his/her person, a dog wants to work. Anyone who thinks dog sledding is animal abuse needs to do it (or skijoring) at least one. The rules for big events like the Iditarod are much more heavily skewed towards the dogs safety than human safety.

I had a husky/border collie mix, but leave there be no doubt the dog was running the border collie operating system.

And yeah, she would herd.  People, other dogs.  Her job became fetch.  She was a frisbee catcher before knee and back problems.
