Someone sounds upset that their team hitched their wagon to a perpetually injured primadonna.

I never would have expected booing from Philadelphia of all places.

I submitted this with a better headline.  And it got greenlit...and likely will get purged.

Phoenix STR guys had the Nugs beatwriter on the show yesterday and asked about Jokic's MVP chances.  the guy goes, "call me a homer, whatever, I don't care.  If he doesn't win it, something's wrong.  His problem is, he never shows up on ESPN - no Dame Lilliard '12 points in the final 2 minutes to win', no Steph Curry 3s from 31'away, no flash, no highlight reel plays.

"but, he's carried this team and the #2 player went down a few weeks ago.  All he does is wear you down. You won't see him on ESPN but, check every game's stat sheet;  he'll have 33/14/12, and over the entire season.  I get tthat he's not the 'popular' choice, but, he is the Most Valuable Player in every sense of the term.  Period."

Dad bod god and NBA's only current point center is now the player with the lowest draft position to ever win the league's MVP award

I'm all for it. He scored a ton, rebounded a ton and had over 8 assists per game, contributed 3's reliably, and played every game while his team lost its "top player" in April and many other injuries and he got them up to the 3 seed in the western conference. In a season where some of the other potential MVP's missed significant time, this one makes sense.

There was a play last year? 2 years ago? He rebounded, one handed, and then threw the ball on a fast break for an easy assist lay up, all in one motion. That got a lot of replays, and almost as many "wait, can the Broncos sign him?" jokes.

I'm a casual NBA fan. Christmas Day game (usually on background), a few playoff games, but love the Finals.

I'll see your kid, Book, DA, CP3, et al, in person tomorrow night!  BIL hooked me up with tix. Stoked.  My first NBA game in person since 1993.

Yet again just to remind you of Philly's history.

This is shaping up to be one of the best playoffs ever.  Love the injection of new blood.

Exactly, it's the other primadonna on the team (the self-proclaimed "Defensive Player of the Year") that we have issues with.

If anything JoJo isn't a primadonna by any stretch of the imagination.  Dude is playing with a torn meniscus right now but I guess any primadonna can do that.

This; that guy's a true unicorn.  The passing/shooting/decision-making is on a Magic Johnson-level with him.

That's probably what I like the most about Jokic's game.  It's not predicated on some freakish athletic ability.  He lost all that weight and actually got in decent shape and he's STILL slow.  He likely can produce at this level for many more years.  He's also got that one thing all the great big men in the NBA have had, that one basically un-defendable shot in the Sombor shuffle.  Kareem had the sky hook.  Olajuwon had the dream shake.  Tim Duncan had that bank shot.

yeah.  in all sports.  in the NFL, the "rotation" or Patriots, Steelers, Seahawks, Packers etc., it just gets so damn boring after awhile.  always good to see new teams in the mix.

so stoked for tonight.  i haven't been to an NBA game, period, since 1993.  I was a huge fan in that era but just kinda lost interest.  as i said above, i'll watcht he Christmas Day slate (but not really, just more like, background while I cook at shiat) and the Finals but that's about it.  with the Suns finally becoming relevant, i'm interested again.  and obviously "The bubble" last fall, in the midst of our work from home situation, i started watching and it kinda stuck.

GO SUNS!
