I have mixed feelings about this. While the DNC guy was kept out for the possibility of him disrupting DeSantis's press conference, we may be using similar justification locally.

We anticipate certain extreme street preachers may disrupt a planned event this Saturday where drag queens will read stories to little kids. Two of them slipped in earlier this week last and verbally harassed the location, a animal rescue charity, for planning the event. They posted video on social media of their harassment and plan more with more crazies joining them.

We plan to screen for them as we know them (they harass patients and staff regularly at an abortion clinic). We will refuse them entrance and call police for trespass. So, it works both ways.

Yeah, but... will Military members be denying them, while dressed in uniform? Seems like there's a potential distinction, here.

I mean, if he's press and reasonably credentialed as such, we've got a first amendment that speaks specifically to his right to cover events as a member of the press... I'm not comfortable with the idea of the government selectively discriminating such that only journalists who cover a politician favorably are permitted access to events.

So?

They kept a 'troublemaker' out so that the press conference would go uninterrupted.

If they were keeping all Democrats out somehow, that'd be a different thing.

There would be attempts to keep out disruptive MAGAs if the tables were turned, I'm sure.

That sounds like a NY nightclub that Stefan would be raving about on Weekend Update.

This place has everything! Sad dogs, drag queens reading stories to little kids and occasionally, crazy street preachers sneak in and yell at everyone!

I can relate to this. A friend of mine consistently runs crank primary campaigns and then complains when he gets kicked out of Democratic Party events because they know he has a history of unfurling banners declaring  Biden a murderer or whatnot.
It's not crazy to deny admission to people that you know are there to disrupt the event.

Thomas Kennedy, a Miami-based activist and member of the Democratic National Convention, said he was stopped by uniformed service members at a press event held at a National Guard armory.

Thomas Kennedy doesn't get special press privileges because he is a member of the DNC;  nor is it a really big deal to have the military doing security at the National Guard Armory.  It's kind of where they hang out a lot.

But sure...papers, please....same thing.  We're living in Hitler now.

Florida is going under, guys.

Here's how rising seas could swallow up these coastal cities

Of the top 25 American cities most vulnerable to coastal flooding, 22 are in Florida (see gif at top). Flooding could destroy Florida's coral reefs, mangrove swamps, and beaches. The risks to coastal areas in the state are exacerbated by the continuing erosion of the seafloor off Florida's coasts.

"So", you say? Do you really think that's an appropriate use of military? Because someone may be disruptive? That someone should be excluded before having done anything wrong? Man, your idea of civil rights is pretty messed up. There are 2 scenarios at play if he's let in 1) he makes an ass of himself 2) he asks a hard question that hurts governor snowflake's fee-fees.

As someone who was born in Florida, Florida is not just one redneck state. There's North Florida, the panhandle, which might as well Alabama, there's central Florida, which are mostly normal people (some bad neighborhoods like any other state) and South Florida with rich people and racist Cubans (I guess that last statement sounded racist in itself but they mostly are, they hate other Latinos).

I lived in New York and it's a lot more farked up.

No, because someone may be adversely disruptive and out of order.

That someone should be excluded before having done anything wrong?

They had already proven themselves to be disruptive previously so I hardly believe that they haven't done anything to have caused this.

You're not a political figure.  You aren't the government.  Both the military AND DeSantis are direct government representatives.  Just like Trump can't block haters on Twitter, a PUBLIC event that is not ticketed and is in the public interest you cannot just block any person without a really good reason.

and interrupting is not a a enough reason.

The bar is really high for stuff like this.

They have to be a threat to people and well documented to get enough to block someone from a public speaking engagements.

Seriously, the courts do not take this stuff lightly.  The bar is set really high and unless it's a private event they can't block people because they don't like their politics or because they don't like the interruptions.

This is multiple violations of his rights on multiple levels.

Now if they let the dude in and had to drag him out because he was disturbing the event.  Sure.  That's fine.

But you can't precime and say for a fact he was going to interrupt it.

Doesn't work that way.

Hopefully this dude sues them into oblivion.

You're not a troublemaker until you start making trouble.  They stopped him before he could make trouble, because somebody told them he's a "known agitator".  That's a phrase autocrats love to use against their enemies.  This was purely political.
