That farkwad declared that years ago when Obama was in office.  Even basic non-partisan legislation was being held hostage for no other reason than partisanship.

So if McConnell has officially declared it dead, does that mean Manchin no longer has any valid reason false pretext to keep the filibuster in place?

The Newt Gingrich era killed any good faith intent of bipartisanship by the GOP. Realistically, it was on the cart even before then.

Driedsponge: So if McConnell has officially declared it dead, does that mean Manchin no longer has any valid reason false pretext to keep the filibuster in place?

No, because Manchin doesn't actually believe what he's saying any more than Turtle does. Because it's the same picture.

I'll be happy to declare him dead when nature takes it's course. Such a miserable farkstain on this country.

Yeah, his tack will now be, "Democrats need to work harder.  Democrats have to convince him that bipartisanship is not dead."

Anything but stop pandering to the NSDAP.

Just be real careful rubbing anything on Manchin stans. That could be really gross.

As shiatty a person as McConnell is, people might look back and see him as being one of the most shrewd politicians of our time.  Gross, but true.

He realized somehow early in Obama's tenure that he could obstruct 100% of everything the Dems offered and still not get shellacked in the midterms and elections.   Before there had to be at least the illusion of bi-partisanship.  He took that into the shed and put a bullet into it and somehow it worked.

For funsies, search google for that phrase.

It seems eras of bipartisanship have ended in 1997, 2001, 2007, 2010...

Worked maybe because they won the house, but they couldn't win the Presidency.

Such a shame he was able to find shelter on January 6.

Okay

Wrong Joe. He knows that that's the only way to get that idiot hillbilly Manchin on board with what 70% of his voters want

The most frustrating thing about Manchin appointing himself defender of the filibuster is that anyone who's been paying the least bit of attention in recent years knows that as soon as Republicans take the Senate and the Presidency again, the filibuster is immediately going away.

He's a symptom, though arguably he's worked really, really hard at being a cause.

But ultimately he hasn't done anything another Republican wouldn't do given appropriate backing and a safe seat.  He takes heat off those who are less secure in their positions but 100% complicit.

Maybe the left needs our own 1/6/2021.

I mean, obviously these types of things are OK now, right?

And I bet we can get a lot more to show up.

Perhaps time we show that those who would see democracy fall will not be those that are in power if/when it does

Bipartisanship was still well and alive in the 1990s. Without it, we never would have deregulated the banks and cleared the paths for tech monopolies.

Because he is against the legislation you said you were against and called "Dog shiat"? You seem to have the same position he has.

AdmirableSnackbar: So Biden's agenda is dog shiat compared to what we need, however Democrats can't even get dogshiat passed with majorities in both chambers of Congress.

Not only that, GOP political operatives will use "Dems will eliminate the filibuster" as a way to keep the Senate at 50/50, and then, once GOP state leges have rafarked the 2024 election to which ever GOP clown loses the popular vote by millions of votes, those same GOP operatives will piss themselves with glee when a 50/50 Senate eliminates the filibuster on Jan 22, 2025

Get over your persecution complex.

Nobody, in any of these threads, defends King Manchin's BS. Doubly so since he straight up declared himself a Quisling.

The republican base at that point hated government and Democrats so every chance to stop them was seen as a good thing.  Conservative propaganda set McConnell up win elections by sabotaging America.
