Yeah, I'm certainly no fan of their politics, and the headline may be pretty accurate, but.... um...

Hm. Don't seem to remember my point.

Look, the group currently called Lynyrd Skynyrd sure does put on a good show and all...but it's Rossington, Medlocke (who left the band before they got anywhere), Ronnie's brother and a bunch of replacements. Just saying.

i was going to say that. then I realized that half the bands that I love have cycled so many out of the band over 30 years that they're not the original.

At least Anthrax resumed the proper lineup after a 15 year lull.  But honestly.. other than tool, I really can't think of many bands that have multi-decade lineups that haven't had members either die, go off the rails, etc.

/Still couldn't pay me to sit through a skynrd song, let alone a full concert

I couldn't believe they had both Medlocke and Thomasson in the band AT THE SAME TIME, yet never covered either live. What a missed opportunity. Anyway, would 100x rather see Medlocke do a Blackfoot club tour than any incarnation of Skynyrd.

Every one of these bands including whatever remains of Lynyrd Skynyrd should be opening for Joan Jett.

Counterpoint: I'm not a huge fan, but Kansas sounds great right now. My co worker spun some recent live Point of Know Return thing and it was shockingly good. A bunch of deep cuts then Point straight through. Joan Jett is an old lady with a catalog of cover songs and a hired band.

I saw them in like '97 or '98 and I believe Artimus Pyle was still drumming for them.

There's Aerosmith and ZZ Top from that area with orginal members. Styx has a few key players still. Foreigner it's just Mick Jones.

First time I saw them was in Shreveport in 99, ZZ Top opened with the Screaming Cheetah Willies prior.  Both opening bands were better, the Willies were incredible and ZZ Top was soooo cooool.

Second time was in Bossier in 01ish, basically the same city, with The Nuge and Deep Purple. Ted killed it, I hate to admit.  Deep Purple was pretty bad.

So it looks like I'll see them again in Bossier.  If that's actually where their career ends, I feel bad for them.  I know that with one exception they're a cover band, but since it's so close to me I kinda want to see it.

They're close to what I suspect will be a new  reality, bands as a brand and not the real thing.  AC/DC is my pick for doing it first.

heard endured part of a performance of Marshal Tucker a couple years ago. An absolute disgrace to the name.
Sounded like a crapy garage cover band.

Honestly, the band should have died with the plane crash. By the time Rossington got it together, Collins was paralyzed and soon would die. He was the piece that really couldn't be replaced.

That would be Darryl Jones. His credits/discography are a trillion times more legit than any member of the Stones could ever dream of.

Yeah, MTB was opening for Skynyrd and .38 Special a few years ago. Doug Gray is the only one left and he sounded half dead. He actually *needed* to let the audience sing "Can't You See" for him because couldn't physically sing it.

\meanwhile 38 was insanely tight and Skynyrd at least puts on a good show
