I never thought I'd live to see a hipster video game system. But here we are.

What a parody of a Eastern Bloc game might look like:

If they had hooked the crank to an internal battery, they could have marketed it as a green or off-grid entertainment system.

You want to play a game?  Either plug it in, or start cranking.  When the battery gets low it notifies the system, which gracefully saves your current state and shuts down.  You want to play more, get back to cranking.

That would also allow them to sell Solar panels with it to help charge its internal battery, or sell parts to convert a bicycle into a pedal charger.  Lots of accessories that can be sold to many buyers

for that money you could be doing real crank and keeping the basement cleaner than a mofo.

I don't get it. Is the crank the only controller?

So I says to myself, "self, the original gameboy was too clear, what if I could make it more expensive and call in the programmers from the old Tiger Electronics games?"

Holy fark this thing still hasn't come out? And they want close to $200 for it? Damn, I think we had posts about this thing a while back, honestly thought it had already came and went.

you don't think 200 for a budget gameboy with worse graphics that you have to power yourself is value?!?!

Hey now, if they used any better graphics it'd cost over 10 grand just for the graphics card.

This is what game consoles have been missing all along: moving parts.

That's exactly what I thought the crank was for.  It's a controller?  fark that.  My interest plummeted when I saw that you couldn't charge it up with the crank.

1-bit graphics, like on the original Mac c. 1984.  Why?  Just because it's retro?  Why?

It was supposed to come out last year, but there was this whole thing with a pandemic that shut down most of the electronics factories in Asia. They've used the time to expand the launch library and put together a program where you can make games for it pretty easily.

Because Panic wanted to expand into hardware and they thought it was a fun idea.

I'm interested in seeing what the Return of the Obra Dinn guy does with his game on there.
