What good is it to have a Republican with a D after their name?

Good thing Dems would still be the Senate majority.

Committee assignments so they can write legislation.... that they'll never pass. Oh yeah...

Remove his committee assignment and threaten funding for West Virginia until he starts playing ball. That's something that can be done fairly easily.

In addition they can start investigating price gouging by EpiPen manufacturers because that's been a thing their constituents have been upset about lately.

West Virginia is a third-world hellhole... That's like threatening to bomb Afghanistan back to the stone age...

Now, if you threaten their supply of Oxycontin? Then we'd be onto something.

Schumer and Biden are powerless, cry moderates who saw Trump and McConnell run roughshod over the country for the past four years.

Merkley's emails are far less diplomatic than his brief reference in this article, and for that I'm grateful.

Otherwise, this is all rich white people acting like rich white people--don't rock the boat, don't upset the status quo. Stop being "disappointed" and start being angry, you privileged assholes.

A lot of good right now.  Stimulus wouldn't have passed without his vote, nor will anything else pass without his vote.  It sucks that he's against some of these issues, but as it stands, I'd still rather have Manchin in the Senate than a Trumper.  He votes D on a majority of the bills, so he IS better than an WV R.

Face it, we're stuck with Manchin

This.

And let's be honest here and accept that Manchin is going to continue the Manchin because he clearly thrives on the power rush he gets from being able to sink anything on Biden's agenda that doesn't make his personal approval list. Our only hope is to focus on the midterms and pick up a couple of seats so Manchin and Sinema won't matter anymore.

there will always be a Manchin or SInema or Coons or Warner or Kaine or whoever to stop things from getting done. how much longer does it need to be shouted in your face before you believe that the Democrats don't actually want to fix things?

Call up some WV union reps and community leaders that got Manchin in office in the first place and have some journalists ask them what they think about the job the Senator is doing. There are so many ways to put pressure on him but Democrats aren't pursuing any of them.

that seems to be the best bet to me. I wonder how difficult it would be to put him on mount rushmore or have a month named after him. At this point, as long as we get the vote to eliminate the filibuster I'd offer him anything he wanted.

Is there another stimulus bill on the horizon? No? Then why does that single bill matter at all going forward when Manchin is working to block the entire Democratic agenda now?

Manchin's the reason we have Senate Majority Leader Schumer instead of McConnell. That's pretty important.

Of course, he (and Sinema, the wolf in sheep's clothing) are undercutting a lot of the importance of having a D in the senate majority leader's spot with their disgraceful and nothing-short-of idiotic take on "bi-partisanship" (whatever the fark that even actually means any more). But not all of it.

But I'm beyond tired of these stories. It's just gratuitous at this point. Unless someone has some genius plan to force them to change their minds (fat chance), convince/force a few GOP senators to caucus with the Democrats in killing the filibuster and/or passing Democratic/American governance priorities (even fatter chance), or circumvent the constitution itself (it's dangerous enough with ONE party constantly trying to do that now, let alone two) there's only one remedy for Manchin and Sinema - strengthen the D majority in the federal legislature and with D Senators who actually would like to get the work of the people done. That's literally it, there's no other solutions.

It sucks and that means in the next year and a half there's a lot of shiat that needs to happen but won't, but that's just the reality. I don't like it any more than anybody else does, but no one has yet to be able to articulate any other course of action which doesn't involve flipping GOP senators, flipping Manchin/Sinema, or ignoring the constitution. Probably because there isn't one.

Everything before the "but"....

I get it, you don't think voter rights are important and you don't think that widespread pressure could possibly work on intransigent politicians.

If nothing's going to get done - whether or not you care about that or are personally affected by it enough to want it to be different - then let people rage against those who are farking things up. You're tired of these stories? Well guess what, we're farking tired of Democrats killing good policy unilaterally. We're done with it. If you're fine with it continuing, the very least you can do is just STFU and stay out of the fight entirely.

This isn't a matter of ability. It's a matter of will, and the Democrats with the power to do something are vehemently opposed to doing it.
