Perhaps I will live long enough to see Connecticut emerge from puritan times after all.

Does it seem insane to anyone else that passing a bill like this can take so goddamn long? I'm so tired of "We've taken a vote about taking a vote to form the advisory board that will vote on voting to form a committee to study the issue, and in five years we will vote to vote on voting on it in the House, send the bill to the Senate, where they will repeat the entire process, then send the bill back to the House, and then we'll flip a coin or something I dunno" all the time.

You do realize he's talking about how the war on drugs has severely f*cked up communities of color, right? He's blaming the war, not the drugs.

He's a Black Democrat from Connecticut who has spent a very large amount of his political life battling police brutality and attempting to rein in their impunity. I know that's not well known information, so no judgment. Suffice it to say that he's not a fan of the War on Drugs.

That applies to Florida. But Jon Lovett described New Hampshire as "a bunch of southern rednecks who snuck up through the woods to cosplay as liberals."

It never makes any sense to them until the money is right, they can find a million ways to drag things out until they've worked out how to wet their beaks and find the people that are willing to pay to play.

They waited too long though and were about to leave a ton of cash on the table if their residents could just putt over to NY to get weed.

Well 10 am on Sunday in Texas. Grocery store beer and wine no liquor store.

YMMV if in dry area. But my area was dry 20 years ago. I had to join a private club to order a beer in pizza hut.  Pizza hut is a Taco Casa now and we have more liquor stores than Baptist churches.

That may have been the last time I was in a Pizza hut. The Joe's pizza is byob now. Liquor store is two doors down. Neither Joe's nor liquor store is open on Sunday.

I was really only slightly exaggerating.

I think my major annoyance comes from the fact that a populace can vote in favor of a ballot measure overwhelmingly, and there's basically no mechanism to force the legislature to follow the mandate of the people. Legislatures have dragged their feet on these measures for years. Why is that legal, or constitutional? It seems like maybe the people should be able to sue their government in a class-action suit when the legislature refuses to deliver at all on something the people have made clear that they want. At what point is it no longer a representative democracy?

Am I the only one surprised it wasn't already legal in CT?

Aren't they basically surrounded by states that have legalized it?

I grew up in a very rural area of Vermont--village of 175, graduated from public school in a class of 18 students--and I honestly heard little aimed at Burlington. Most of it was annoyance at the "flatlanders" moving in from MA/CT and messing up the culture and traditions in southern Vermont.

Where I'm from, we mostly complained about the leafers and maliciously laughed when they inevitably died in drunken, helmet-less snowmobile accidents.

The Vermont side was better. People might wear hunting gear all year round and have gun racks in their trucks, but they didn't bring guns into businesses (and I knew basically no one who owned a handgun) and they had Obama stickers on their vehicles. Liberal rednecks are a thing!
