346 people died because Boeing f*cked up and covered it up.  This company should not be allowed to make commercial airplanes which kill people.  It should stick to its core brand of making military airplanes which kill people.

Does Boeing still have to give a $1 million discount on each jet if the pilots are required to go through anything more than basic upgrade training for the type?

Southwest was great because I could get a direct flight from Sky Harbor to Tampa. Not even sure that flight exists anymore since I moved back to Florida, and COVID killed many flights.
I know this......if I were told that my direct flight was on a 737 Max, my ass would be renting a car to Florida.

My neighbor is a SWA captain, originally from Midway and now Atlanta. They were all fully trained and all their Maxes had the full complement of software/hardware upgrades. There's no real guesswork for most first-world, mainstream airlines and their competent crews.

Boeing still royally farked up, but I have no qualms about the Max here. Unless it was Spirit or Frontier...

I was at Boeing up until last summer, and this was beyond disgusting and tone deaf:

There was an all-employee webcast to address the 737 Max crashes, and they actually said that if employees wanted to contribute to the fund for the victims' families, they could go to an internal website.

Are you f*cking kidding me?  You are about to lay off thousands of employees and you are asking them to contribute their hard-earned money because you f*cked up.

/Glad they laid me off.
//I have friends who are still there, and the culture is toxic.

If we're being honest, it's probably now as safe as it gets.  Boeing has been under a microscope for a couple years to fix it and by now they've quintiple tested and retested the flight control system, and not just the MCAS.  And the FAA is not likely to be as casual about certs any time soon.

Doesn't mean something else that didn't get as much attention won't do it.  But commercial airliners have a pretty good track record in recent decades in an absolute sense, even Boeing ones.

Yeah, the problem is this wasn't the case when the MAX first launched.

Asking SWA 373 MAX pilot a question: "What do you think of the new MCAS system on these planes?"
SWA Pilot: "The what now?" [flips through flight manual] "What page is that on?"

If it's Boeing, I ain't going.

/Bye, Southwest.
//American having a direct flight from San Jose to Austin is the clincher.
///Yes, I know American has Boeings too.
