During the attack, the report says, Capitol Police were heavily compromised by multiple failures - bad intelligence, poor planning, faulty equipment and a lack of leadership. The force's incident command system "broke down during the attack," leaving officers on the front lines without orders. There were no functional incident commanders, and some senior officers were fighting instead of giving orders. "USCP leadership never took control of the radio system to communicate orders to front-line officers," the investigation found.

Whether complicit or incompetent, none of these worthless motherfarkers should ever work in LE again.

Just to be clear, McConnel is fine with the Senate conducting a quiet investigation to the response to the seditionists, but didn't want to look too closely at Senate and House involvement, or give eye-witness testimony its day on the floor.

"We investigated the matter, and the police were to blame, and certainly not the House Representatives who gave these seditionists tours, nor State AGs who helped organize the event, and certainly not Senators who happened to have conveniently been out that day. These incompetent police taunted the crowd by being so weak and ineffectual, and any beatings or injuries that were incurred that day were the result of their failures, and certainly not the White House that refused to authorize ANY assistance to the 2000 Capitol Police facing ten to fifteen times their number, while trying to find improvised explosives and keep throngs of Confederate flag waving asshats out of the Capitol building. Why they didn't just buy more cops is beyond us, especially when we give them a discretionary fund for snacks that they could have used. This is where I cluck my tongue in disappointment."

1 - Demand a recount.
2 - Kettle the opposition in a room to verify the recount
3 - Send in clown posse.
4 - Withhold first responders.
5 - Watch from a party tent.

What part of all that doesn't reek of a Text book tin pot dictator coup attempt?

FTFA: There were clear warnings and tips that supporters of former President Donald Trump, including right-wing extremist groups, were planning to "storm the Capitol" with weapons and possibly infiltrate the tunnel system underneath the building. But that intelligence never made it up to top leadership.

My ass. "Top leadership" was at the Ellipse telling them to go down Pennsylvania Avenue or they wouldn't have a country anymore. "Top leadership" was giving out information on the locations of politicians on Twitter.

The best intelligence in the world doesn't mean a damn thing if you're not willing to use it to root out and stop those working to support the attack from the inside. Which "top leadership" sure as shiat was not going to do.

They can blame whatever infrastructure they'd like.

Whatever failure plagued that day was compounded by intentional stalling and multiple levels of apathy and support by those in power.

And whatever failure occurred was supported by politicians actively participating in a manhunt in hopes their fellow politicians would get lynched in the capital by a mob.

So give them hundreds of millions of increased funding, that'll solve everything.

It's hard to protect people when the president of the United States is conspiring to have them killed.

Yes, I'm sure they were all "mistakes" and "oversights" and none of it was at all intentional, and no one should be held responsible.

Because "conservatives" have such a long and storied history of acting in good faith for the best of the nation just so much, like TOO much, I can't stand all this good faith they operate in.

So sure, let's keep playing footsie with them and insisting on "bi-partisan" (who knows what that even MEANS anymore) investigations together with the criminals themselves. That's a great idea.

More inept than "intentionally moved the barricades to let them in while being filmed"? Wow.

"Top Leadership" was conspiring to hang the Capital Police out to dry in the hopes that the Red Hat Revolt would kill enough Congress Persons for the rest to say that the election didn't count.

So you're in favor of de-funding police now.

It's amazing how every American screwup is always the fault of middle-managers and bad apple footsoldiers failing their senior leaders and never the other way around.

The ruling elite can never fail; it can only be failed by incompetent supporters.

Failures?

As in "Oops, we goofed"?

Cos yeah, no.

It failed by design, was encouraged to fail.

Basically the drawbridge was let down before the planned attack.

One Flynn Bro riling up the troops on 1/6 with Trump while the other made sure the response was a shambles.

Yeah...... when the response is intentionally hamstrung and leadership drags their feet at every level possible its not ineptness, its intention.  Jail the farking traitors.

Part of me wonders what would have changed if the insurrectionists got their hands on a Senator or Representative, like if Mittens took a wrong turn or if Gohmert didn't get out of his office in time.

I'm reasonably sure the answer would have been "nothing".

There were prior arrangements made by the Administration that basically created a stand down of the Capitol Police, and the National Guard authorization needed to quell this clown convention, bum rush by the red hatters.

The report is blowing smoke on that, and trying to place blame on a guy who already resigned, or those who were fired.

"Lone wolf. It's shameful and a tragedy that he killed a senator, but he acted alone. Definitely alone. And what he did was bad, but, you gotta admit, his manifesto makes some good points."

They KNEW!  The FBI knew it was coming.  The CPD and DCP rank and file knew it was coming.  The press knew it was coming.  Everybody on FARK knew it was coming.  Chris Miller tied the National Guard's hands.  CPD leadership tied their officers hands and sent them out with rules of engagement meant to protect optics, not the Capitol.  This came from the top.

This report is a farce.

The Keystone cop part is how the Senate is reacting to hold those people accountable for their actions ..

If you're willing to dig your fingers into a cop's eyeballs, you'd be more than willing to do it to a politician.

Which means the President at the time.

Which means Trump.  How long are going to ignore the elephant in the room here?

The cops didn't stop the insurrectionists for the same reason no one saw Batman and Bruce Wayne side by side.

I think the response was very ept.  Their goal was to let it get out of control, and it did.

Remember how post 9/11 Homeland Security was supposed to tie in all law enforcement and national security to prevent attacks against the USA?

Jesus f*cking CHRIST, Schumer. Would you give the "bipartisan" mewling a goddamn break for once and get your people under control?

Trump never showed up with his goons.  They were waiting for him. Instead he told them to go home in Peace. They declared victory.

The point wasn't a Coup. It was to NORMALIZE VIOLENCE and condition Trumpers to never accept an Election they don't WIN.

And yet here we are, 5 months later...

Close to 500 of the hands-down stupidest foot soldiers ever have been arrested. Big farkin' whoop.

And yet have any of the traitors on the inside, who did all they could to help the coup attempt, even lost their farking jobs yet? To say nothing of being arrested, tried, convicted and hanged in the public square like they deserve?

you may argue that in court in his defense.
We'll wait and see what the prosecution comes up with, too.
