How do you even come to that conclusion and not realize that you're just parroting the same anti-immigrant nonsense that's been peddled for ten thousand years???

"Most radical attack on the core premise of democracy"???? Please. Sit down with your dumb words because I KNOW you could not actually convincingly explain this.
Also the wretched coont you have for a mother and the trucker who she met for fifteen minutes and thus became your father both come from immigrants, so maybe you're totally right.

Not simply to job seekers and gang members from Mexico and Central America, but to varieties of illegal migrants from all over the globe. From Africa and Asia, from the Middle East.

Funny that his long list of places immigrants come from doesn't seem to include, say Sweden or Luxembourg.

I wonder why that might be?

Things that are not an attack on the core premise of democracy:

- Candidates suing to get state elections invalidated.
- States suing other states to get their elections invalidated.
- Sponsoring farcical "audits" meant to falsely impugn the state's election results.
- Looking the other way when a mob invades the halls of Congress to try to prevent certification of a lawful election.

I love how it's always gang members, as if there are millions upon millions of them. When you point out that at most there might be 10K(on both sides of the border) of MS13 in several states populated by 55 million people, kinda loses its scare tactic.

Kamala Harris agrees.

After 70 years of US government interference in destabilizing South American governments we owe it to the immigrants trying to make a life better in America.

They come in and do illegal contractor work? Force your boss to pay them wages equal to yours and watch what happens. They take over jobs operating food processing plants? Why don't you go work the slaughter house for 5.50 an hour. What's that? You want to be paid more? Ok I'll pay an extra quarter a chicken, an extra 50 cents per lb of beef. fark it.

Why can't democrats find a study like this on the working conditions and jobs that illegal Americans are actually doing.

My ancestors were among the first immigrants to come to America, on a little boat called the Mayflower. I'd like to say that I'm anti-immigrant because immigrants really do mess things up for indigenous people.

But I'm not.

2021-06-08 5:40:50 AM
What is the core premise of democracy? How does immigration attack that?

You know, you would like to just reject what he says out of hand, but does he have a point?

I don't think so. He would probably say that the premise of democracy is "majority rules." It is hard to think of something simpler than that. I assume that when he says "immigration," he is talking about people coming to live in a place with full rights and privileges. And that includes voting.

Now is he implying that illegal immigrants vote? That does not appear to be happening.
Does he want to say that immigrant voting is bad? Well. Why would that be? If voting represents the will of the people in a democracy, you want all those eligible to vote .... to vote.

I don't think Tucker Carlson is making any sense. I wasted my time trying to parse his drivel. Again. Pretty soon I will just give up and assume that Tucker never makes any sense. It will be a big time saver.

I believe he is going for the "both sides attack democracy" angle so his viewers can convince themselves that, at best, they are the heroes in the struggle against anti-democratic forces, or, at worst, that all politicians are against democracy so may as well vote for the low taxes/hurting the right people one.

Very poor self-awareness with these people, let's be honest.

...and yet he laments that cheap labor is hard to come by, and a population dip will mean that the US may face the same aging issues Japan faces. Folks aren't having as many kids--and apparently the folks who ARE aren't the 'right ones' in his mind. There is a crunch for labor that many Americans simply refuse to do. Migrants are already so squeezed out that many industries are facing having to shrink their yields because they don't have anyone to pick for them.

So, which is it, Tuck? You want to get sh*t done, or you want to keep the dirty immigrants out of a country founded by immigrants? You want to raise prices and deflate profits and shrink that stock market by paying out for labor that may or may not even be taken up, or do you want to see the strength of this country return by chugging that Melting Pot up a li'l higher?

Fair warning: this isn't going to be a popular opinion.

Tucker has a point. If you add people of a certain skin tone to this country and DON'T put them in bondage, how are you going to be like the strong, noble, upright, forthright, distinguished, venerable, sage, wise paragons of virtue that were the drafters of our Constitution (hallowed be its name).

This is why it's important to put Constitutional (all hail!) literalists and originalists on the Supreme Court. Voting is the most important right that white male landowners have. If these immigrants somehow become part of the American system, the justices will sort it out 6-3.

Well, they also buy into their own "three percent" line of bull honkey, so it makes sense that they think a tiny population can be a massive problem.

Like almost everything else this country does, we have pretty much always farked up our immigration policy in the partisan political battle to use immigrants as the never ending scapegoat of all the countries problems.

Many white men across America are being told to clutch their pearls about immigration at the southern boarder being the end of America as we know it, the same way their great grandfathers were told to clutch their pearls over immigration at Ellis Island being the end of America as we know it. I look forward to seeing what America becomes after white men are no longer in charge of everything but are finally forced to compromise and consider the needs and opinions of the other 230 million people that live here.

Not if you're looking at it from the perspective of poor, disenfranchised, rural whites who've been told for decades, if not centuries that the reason they aren't privileged like other whites is all the dark people demanding free stuff or stealing stuff.

Why can't we prove to them that it's the rich, white men stealing from them and keeping them down, along with everybody bloody else?  If they can be convinced, can't they be un-convinced?  It's not like Tucker and his ilk are significantly intelligent or clever.

Yes, but what you're missing there is that each gang member is a threat to the life and property of 10,000 people. Of course reasonable people will be terrified.
/And of course we have people electing Democrats who want gang members running day care centers

2fardownthread: He would probably say that the premise of democracy is "majority rules."

Difficulty: He might say that, but he doesn't believe it. Like many Republicans, Carlson does not believe in "majority rules". He believes, like the GOP, that a majority of whites in red states should rule. Minorities don't count. Blue states don't count. Blue cities don't even count and should have their preferred laws overruled by red state governments. Anything else is an assault on "the rights of the minority", by which the GOP means minority rule by them. Democratic election victories are illegitimate.

Hell, I keep encountering Republicans on social media who do not believe the US is not even a democracy, will vehemently argue that, and will not accept any source that shows how idiotically wrong they are. Yes, even if the clear distinction between direct and representative democracy is made, they insist that the US is neither. It's farking incredible. Just how bad was these people's education? Did they somehow get through school without learning anything factual at all about their country's government?
