When the hell are the Mets going to get around to playing all of their missed games for rainouts and Covid?

I can't wait until they start having 1 or 2 doubleheaders each week in the coming months -- they've played 6-9 fewer games than every other team in baseball. I'm waiting for their record to correct itself from all the free rest.

Absolute BS that they are permitted to sit in 1st place while having scored the FEWEST runs of any major league team.

What a bizarre thing to get hung up about.  They've played the fewest games, naturally they will have scored less total runs.  Baseball standings in June mean dick, but the rest of the NL East teams don't have much to beef about when not a single other team in the division has a positive run differential.

I'm just grumbling as a Phillies fan who knows my team sucks -- imagine the same rant delivered over beers at the bar. It's still wild how few games they've played. They have to make them up at some point.

Yay for cheating. Perhaps we should let batters use aluminum bats?

It all depends on the way the scheduling works out for both teams. I think they play most of them in June and July.

They're also in first because of the winning percentage. As dumb as it is, even if they were 1-0, they'd technically be in first.

Plus the rest of the NL East is a dumpster fire at the moment.

Well, even if they weren't able to make up their games, they are the only team in the division to top 29 wins.  Second place has 28, so the Mets could conceivably forfeit the rest of the games, which they won't, and still have the most wins in the division.

The make up games do require the other team to be available too.  But since you asked:

Over a 7 day span, they will play 10 games:

Double Header vs Nats: June 19th
Double Header vs Braves: June 21st
Double Header vs Phils: June 25th

Double Header vs Braves: July 26th
Double Header vs Marlins: August 31st

Those doubleheaders are easier when they only go 7 innings each.  A manager might prefer that to save bullpen arms.

20 fewer innings.  That's a lot.

I don't disagree that it can turn into a giant relief on tired bullpen arms, but it's also entirely MLB's doing. They wanted these dumb rules to speed up the game, and now they have to deal with the consequences of a pandemic plus rain.

I would actually prefer the pre-covid rules, but as a Mets fan, I won't be upset if we can preserve some bullpen arms this season, and maybe earn deGrom a complete game here or there.
