I don't know about broccoli, but a spinach and egg pizza can be a tasty breakfast.

It's very similar to making shakshuka in a base of tomatoes, spinach, and cheese.

A lot of veggie pizza I have eaten have broccoli on it. It is pretty good. I still say NO to pineapple on pizza.

Good, I needed even more reasons to not buy their pizza.

Still not as odd as Lutefisk as a pizza topping.

All right, so they're odd choices for pizza toppings, but they're not "Japanese" odd (I'm looking at you, mayonnaise on pizza).

No need. The spiders have already let themselves in and set up shop in your shoes.

Broccoli on pizza is not that weird. I have seen that lots. My wife likes it.

Verdict: Really not that strange

Salmon? Fish and cheese is a dicey combination in most circumstances, unless you're using canned tuna, but salmon is not canned tuna, unless Dominos is using canned salmon, which they almost assuredly are.

Verdict: Inconclusive

Pumpkin? I do like artichokes on pizza, and I think pumpkin sort of fits in that category. Pumpkin is a pretty mild flavor all by itself, so it's going to blend in with whatever you put with it.

Verdict: A little weird, but probably ok.

Exactly what I was going to say.  I'll use it along with onions, garlic and some cheddar cheese along with the pizza cheese.

Well salmon and steamed broccoli are one of my favorite dinners, I'd give em a shot on a pizza. Maybe with a white sauce, not marinara 🤔

2021-06-07 10:16:22 AM
I like broccoli so that would probably be good. Not a fan of pumpkin though and while I like salmon, it just seems like it would be weird on pizza.

2021-06-07 10:18:28 AM
The salmon intrigues me.

Pumpkin... not for me.

Broccoli... not a veggie I particularly enjoy so probably not for me. That being said, one of my normal Papa Murphy's orders has artichoke and it's amazing.

Butternut squash pasta sauce/filled ravioli are pretty popular, so I imagine pumpkin (which in Australia refers to any winter squash, iirc) would do okay given the right accompaniments. I would definitely try it.

My boomer mom used to make canned salmon patties with cheddar cheese sauce. I didn't think that kind of thing aligned with modern tastes so much but I guess they have market research to suggest otherwise. I would not have answered positively.

And yeah, broccoli's pretty standard in a veggie-heavy pizza, at least from places that actually want to offer choices beyond the meat and banana pepper type toppings.

2021-06-07 10:34:34 AM
Broccoli?  Meh, had it on pizza before.  Not my first topping choice but not my last, either.

Pumpkin? Not a fan in general.

Salmon?  Sorry not getting fish from Domino's.  That just screams, "I'll spend the night hoping I don't die and the next day wishing I did."

2021-06-07 10:49:00 AM
Broccoli: leafy rabe sure on a white sauce pizza with complementary topings on thin crust . The bulky florets not so much.
Pumpkin: if this was from a local joint that has a good track record with exotic ingredients sure. Since I doubt they are slicing it fresh from the gourd that's a no.
Salmon : local places try the seafood pizza (,shrimp and crab) with rubbery results. I doubt domino's will put raw salmon on the pizza so over cooked dry salmon

And predictably I now want pizza.

Broccoli - Not that weird.  Great with chicken, mushrooms and bell pepper specifically.

Salmon - I wouldn't say it's a bad idea... I'd say I wouldn't trust a chain place to do it though.  Something with a bit of pesto, some garlic butter, and tomato on it.  Yeah, probably great.

Pumpkin - I can't imagine it working out on a traditional pizza.  Now if they'd introduced a pumpkin SAUCE I bet that would give you some pretty good pizzas.

Was the duck not new or did they not deem it "weird" for the article?  One of the premium pizzas is "Generously topped with delicious BBQ Peking duck, crispy rasher bacon and slices of red onion, prepared on a BBQ sauce base and garnished with spring onions"

Smoked salmon pizza is great. cream cheese and sour cream base, capers, onions, smoked salmon,. Top with arugula and squeeze of lemon.

If I have any left, I use my own bourbon-brined, hot-smoked salmon. Brine salmon overnight in salt, brown sugar (or maple syrup) and bourbon in a slurry. Rinse off and dry. Leave uncovered in fridge for a couple of hours to get tacky. Smoke at 250 or so for 2 hours.

Domino's Philly cheesesteak. Extra American cheese and extra meat. Hold the mushrooms and bell peppers, if preferred. Trust me on this.

2021-06-07 12:01:17 PM
Salmon: probably nice if you're the kind of person who likes things with no flavor.  Great way to make your pizza even blander.  Most fish doesn't go on pizza because its delicate flavor gets completely destroyed, which is completely not the case with anchovies.  Anchovies good, salmon mehhhhhhh.

Pumpkin: weird but it's nothing I haven't seen before.  I think it can be too sweet and bland things even worse with its texture, but that's just me.  Some people actually like pumpkin chunks.  I think they're fine sometimes, but the pizza texture does not make the pumpkin chunks palatable like, say, a curry with rice.

Broccoli: how is this even controversial?  Do people not already put broccoli on pizza?  What the hell is the problem here?

Ohhhhh... as a topping...

2021-06-07 12:14:56 PM
Whenever we visited my great grandmother's place in South Philly, my mom's cousin Joey would bring pizza, and there'd usually be a broccoli pie in the stack,

Olive oil, lots of garlic, broccoli, and cheese.  No tomato sauce.  There might've been fresh tomato (like the spinach pies)

This was 30 years ago, so I don't remember all of the details, like what the cheese was.  I don't think it was straight mozerella.  Might've been a mozz / provolone blend, or maybe mozz with some parmesan or pecorino romano. Might've even been ricotta

So brocolli doesn't seem strange to me.  I've also had plenty of seafood pizzas (but usually shellfish ... clams, crab, shrimp, etc), but can't say I've had salmon.  Or any winter squash on pizza

the duck one sounds phe-farking-nom-nom-nomenal!

salmon, I d'nno. maybe if it was novalox/gravlax added after the fact? I've had some strange lobstah (actually I think it was langostinos) + skrimps pizza/flatbread from... Red Lobster of all places (eh, seamless was running this bizarre deal where you could combine a $15 and a $20 promotion for red lobster, so the thing was practically free and I had a curious. wife got snow/king crab legs that time I think.) - overcooked seafood, just, meh yeahnothanks.

agreed with you and others, broccoli is not at all weird. spinach or broccoli-rabe is hardly unheard-of, not sure I've ever had plain-ol' regular broccoli on a pizza, but I'm all for it.

well, tell a lie, I've had plenty of (cold) Ohio "pizza" in my misspent youth, lol! it's actually half-decent... s'long as you don't actually think of it as pizza -

Yeah, broccoli is pretty common as a topping 'round these parts.  Salmon is less common, but you can get it.  Mostly ordered as a specialty topping on a seafood pizza, with shrimp, I think.  Not my cup of tea, but perfectly normal.

Roasted pumpkin is entirely new to me.  I know people that eat roast pumpkin just as a vegetable side, but I've never tried it myself.  And I've never heard of it being on a pizza before.

I love pineapple.  Pepperoni/bacon/pineapple is on of my top three pizza combos.

I have not tried pepperoni & pineapple. I must rectify this situation. If I'm doing pineapple pizza I usually do either a classic Hawaiian or else bbq chicken with pineapple.

Broccoli on pizza? I've been having that for decades... you should try marinading it and grilling it too.
Pumpkin? Sure, I'd give it a try.
Salmon? I think a hot smoked, sweet/salty version (think honey glazed) could work out damn well!

They make some damn good "non traditional" pizzas.
Right now I think I could go for a bacon, anchovy, onion and pineapple pizza, either with olive oil and fresh basil or a creamy garlic sauce.

oh heck to the yes please!

while ago, I bought a case of sliced (non-pickled) beets. and those go on every damn thing - sanguiches, salads, ...even scrambled eggs, I shiat you not. it's awfully hard to find canned beets sans-sucre, but somehow I did, and those things are just all sorts of earthy-glorious.

hunh, now these I may have to take out for a spin - ingredients? beets! full-stop.

oh dear lord, those all sound amazeballs. one of our preferred locales has a wood-fired brick oven, and chars up some of the nicest pies. I usually go for the margherita or 4-cheese, wife gets the crispetty pupperoni. but yours? kudos to them on creativity, those all look good. well... maybe not that overloaded veggie one, zucchini and summer squash?!

maaaaan, in the before-times? every Tuesday at the Ashburner was BOGO. every. damn. Tuesday. buy a pizza, get one of equal or lesser cost. you better believe we were all up ins. I think one year we almost clocked 52 straight weeks in a row?

I used to work in an Italian restaurant and one of the servers said their customers wanted a veggie pizza.  I asked what kind of veggies?
The server said, "Anything"
"Anything?"
"That's what the said."
We has just prepped for the next batch of minestrone so he we had a bucket of all kinds of chopped vegetables:  Broccoli, cauliflower, onions, carrots, celery, cabbage, green beans, peas, etc.  So I just took a big scoop and threw it on a pizza.  I was trying to be a smartass, but it didn't work - they loved it

Monday/Tuesday 4-6 pm at that place is "get an extra large for the price of a medium", and then they have web coupons for $4 off an XL whenever... I used to hit them once a week right after work. ;)
Here is the full menu, if you want to tease yourself: https://www.pizza-gourmet.com
The Cobb makes me drool just reading it.

As for the place you listed, that's not exactly shabby either. I'd go for an ashburner (with garlic)  or a black and blue, in that order please. No, not on different days, just 15 minutes apart...

Damn, now I want pizza. I might have to drop by next week.

dadgammit, any sort of happy-hour or weekly promotions here, went right out the window with the plague-era. well, not that I can blame them, I totally get that they're all been struggling to survive.

that Cobb sounds farking perfect - "mozzarella, chicken, bacon, walnuts, red onions, blue cheese, garlic" - that's, like, just common-sensical. that is how you do a pizza. I've no idea why places around here like to put french fries + cheese-wiz on pizza (I mean, it's Jersey-adjacent Philadelphia, so...)

if'n $mai_waifu wants to go there again tomorry, I'll try to wrangle up some pizzas and report back with pics. but damson, 10 bucks for colossal skrimps has been too hard to resist 3 times in a row now lol...
