she's old and doesn't play much. never count her out, as she's still capable of brilliant play, but the consistency of seven straight wins is increasingly hard to come by.

The WTA is a complete mess. Only 2 seeds in the top 10 left. 4 in the top 20. The entire top of the rankings has completely collapsed.

I watched this match this morning. When she is on her game Serena is still crazy good, but she is 39-years old.

Besides, how can anyone hope to win a major wearing something like this?

It's almost as if there's a new generation coming through. That's an unfortunate side effect of actual sporting meritocracy.

Women's tennis are like hot house flowers. They typically don't last long and only had a few years at the top. The margins are even slimmer when playing fewer sets. Navratilova, Graf were the exceptions, but with her strength, Serena was just able to outlast all of them.

Best ever. No question. Not even close.

Then pay them their money, and not have shiatheads like Djokovic cut them out of schemes to generate more.

How are house flowers' return games?

Ehhh.... this particular tournament has less to do with NextGen (because they're all losing too -- Kenin lost this morning), and more to do with the fact women's tennis doesn't have the clay specialists the men do (with the possible exception of Swiatek) so you get more random winners at RG every year.

But the biggest factor is that this has been a somewhat muted tennis season with less tournaments and travel and less practice and training due to quarantine. Tennis is one of the most international sports and players must go through rigorous screenings, curfews, and isolation periods every time they cross borders, which messes up their match fitness, scheduling, and work ethic, so the end result is a lot of random scores and upsets. It's all about who's particularly better on any given day, which can be mostly luck, and it's hard to be lucky 7 times in a row. Basically flip a coin for every match. That's what has happened at Roland Garros over the past week. Rankings mean nothing.
