He does expand on it a bit but no specifics:

KING: No, I think there are things that can be modified. And Chuck Schumer knows that and Amy Klobuchar. I have said that all along.

I -- it's a 800- or 900- or 1,000-page bill. There are clearly some things I think need to be negotiated. And I think Joe Manchin realizes that.

The -- but the guts of it, Jake, is voting rights. It has a lot of other pieces. It has -- for example, it has public financing of elections. It has a lot of other pieces in it. But the important part for me is protecting voting rights. And I think that's becoming more urgent by the day, based upon what's going on around in the states.

And, Jake, there's an important point here. There are two things going on with voting rights. One is getting a lot of publicity, the other not so much. The publicity is about things like limiting absentee ballots and the early voting and all of those kinds of things.

The other piece, though, Jake, that isn't being talked about is, a lot of states are considering changes that the legislature could essentially overturn the results of an election in their state. Remember, Raffensperger stood up in Georgia and said, no, we have certified these elections, the governor certified them.

We're worried that -- or I'm worried that they're going to turn that over and say, OK, a Republican legislature can say, we think there was fraud in Fulton County, and, therefore, we're going to certify a different set of electors.

That's really dangerous.

2021-06-06 8:39:20 PM
KING: Not in general. I'm very reluctant about it. But if it comes down to voting rights ... versus the filibuster, I will choose democracy.

Thank you for posting the transcript. Without a voting rights bill passing state republicans have already changed laws and will continue to do so they can just ignore the votes and democracy. If public financing gets cut won't be pleased but without protecting voting it will never pass anyway. Granted republicans may pass a law to publicly finance campaigns of people picked by certain church leaders. Fatboy made a enormous amount of money from running and in office from the grift so they know the model.

By 2024 the republican party is going to need to embrace support legalization of recreational meth and fentanyl to get any votes. The sad thing is that might actually be a winning strategy.

Well...if it doesn't pass....it may not be next time...it may not be the time after that...but....these Fs will not stop until they are dead or disqualified from all offices.

Could the bill be better? Probably....but.....how about we pass this one and make improvements later? I'd rather have some of what we want than none of what we want at all. Perfect can absolutely be the enemy of good or even acceptable.

Dude, fascism has been here for a good long while. Its just that nobody wanted to acknowledge it in those heady days when we'd just elected a black president and we thought all our troubles were over.

But we were more fascist then than we'd been in decades, and it's gotten worse since.

We've got to believe. Believe that there is a brighter tomorrow. Believe that there really will be an army of giant eagles that come in and save us all...if only we can hold on a little longer. Then...maybe we will realize that we ARE the titanic eagles that save the day.

"Birthplace of democracy"?

The ancient Greeks would like a word with you, since their democracy pre-dates the existence of the US by over two millennia.

In the year 507 B.C., the Athenian leader Cleisthenes introduced a system of political reforms that he called demokratia, or "rule by the people" (from demos, "the people," and kratos, or "power"). It was the first known democracy in the world. This system was comprised of three separate institutions: the ekklesia, a sovereign governing body that wrote laws and dictated foreign policy; the boule, a council of representatives from the ten Athenian tribes and the dikasteria, the popular courts in which citizens argued cases before a group of lottery-selected jurors.

This isn't going to get any better anytime soon.  Any American who is at risk of being put up against a wall and shot when the US becomes an autocracy should be making preparations to emigrate. Now.

Rather than deride your statement I want to understand it. When you write "fascism" what do you mean? "Government doing bad or tyrannical things"? But that wouldn't explain your subsequent statement about "fascism" in America not being aimed at any white people in the past but now being aimed at some white people.

The US is many admirable things, but it is most emphatically NOT the birthplace of democracy.
